Water/fuel seperator install

Hey guys i am getting a new merc motor as most people know here.I want to install a fuel/water seperator on the boat.I know most people just use the one side as in the left pic and plug up the other 2 holes on the other side.

I want to know if i can put one hose on one side[enter from tank] and one on the other[exit to engine] as the right pic shows?If i do this the arrows will be facing the same way,like this-> ->,this will be correct right?Also will it be as effective as the other way with the hoses on both sides.I figured it wouldn't matter but i need to know for sure as most of the filters have the enter and exit on the same side.

As long as you use one inlet and one outlet you can do it any way you want.

Strange, most filter housings I have seen/had the in & out on opposite sides.

Just plug one of the IN ports and one of the OUT ports and it' will work as it's supposed to.

I had a dealer install the fuel lines on a new motor install and it did not take me very long to figure out they were wrong, so I called RACOR. They said the filter will filter either way for debris, not for water, it would let water through if your fuels lines were hooked up wrong. There are arrows showing in and out paths on the housing and they should definitely be followed.

Re: the direction of the arrows for input and output, on my Moeller filter my hoses are connected on the same side, but the arrows go in opposite directions: < for input, > for output (the assumption is that the engine is to the right of the filter).

Mine is set up with both on the same side, works like a champ. It's made so you can run the line any way you want.....as long as you are following the in-out arrows

What i am trying to say here is if i decide to do the in on one side and the out on the other side not on the same side the arrows will be facing the same way,like this -> ->One stands for in and one stands for out.Now if i were to go on the same side it should hook up like this -> <-.On the same side they should go opposite directions,on the hose on one side and one on the other the arrows should face the same way.

I've read your post here 3 times and although the statements are running together, it sounds correct. Basically, the arrows indicate the direction of fuel flow, in & out.

Ok......Arrow pointing toward filter (dirty gas in), arrow pointing away from filter (clean fresh, non water gas out). From tank, straight hose to the arrow pointing in (dirty gas), no matter whether its on the right or left side of the filter. If the arrow is pointing in toward to filter it's correct. Now, hose to the motor with the primer ball should be connected to the arrow pointing out (clean gas out). Whether it's on the right or the left side of the filter, if it's connected to the arrow poiting away from the filter, it's correct.
