I was going through and cleaning the lower unit/gear case tonight. I think I may have found the first bit of bad news for this motor, 1956 Evinrude BigTwin 30hp. After I took the water pump impeller out and cleaned the case I noticed some cracks/buldges. I'm assuming this isn't good, but how bad is it? Can it be repaired, does it need to be? I didn't pry on anything to get the water pump out that would have caused this. After removing the impeller I simply lifted a thin piece of metal that's under the impeller and I noticed the buldges/cracks.
First picture is top view (see buldge at 3 o'clock and one at 7 o'clock).
Second picture is side view of 3 o'clock buldge.
Third picture is other side of 3 o'clock buldge.
Fourth is side view of 7 o'clock buldge.
If I have to replace the housing and if it's exspensive then then it may be game over for this motor.
