water pump?

i changed my empeller and it dont shoot hardly no water out the pee hole but it got a hole down lower bye the fin thing and it shoots out there is this right i have ran it alot on the lake and it aint locked up its a 1980 15hp johnson any in put would be greatful thxs

if it aint coming out of the pee hole something is up!
the pee hole is were the warm water that has cooled the engine is expelled to make way for the cold water that the impeller is pushing up to the engine.

You have either a leak, a blockage, a wrongly fitted impeller or shagged thermostat.

Very suprised your outboard still runs.

If you've run it quite a bit and it hasn't seized up, then it's probably nothing serious. Most of the water comes out where you saw it anyhow. Still, you need the pee hole to tell you if the thing's pumping.

Very likely, the hose for the indicator is clogged. Very common. Check that out. If you have good water flow down below, you're pumping water, but get that indicator stream going, too. You need it on a regular basis.

born to bag. the pee hole is not where the water is expelled. it just a tale tell to let you know you have water. the bulk of the water is expelled out the exhaust housing, into the water when the thermostat opens.

johnnyt, run some weed eater line into the pee hole, may be clogged up. also the thermostat has a small hole in it to allow water thru to the tale tell, if clogged could be no or little pee.

Thanks for the info tashasdaddy, seems i've been under the wrong impression for a while. Still disconcerting though when nothing is comming out the tell tail. Ive been trying to sort my engine out (as you know) for a few days now.
