Re: waterline on boat

I'm still confused. You first asked how to clean off the line on the outside of your boat, from it sitting in the water so long. Then "meals on reelsjello2" tells you to rip up your floor, and you go along with it!

Lol did you want to know how to clean the outside of the boat?

Re: waterline on boat

Just got my start.. ripped out the old gas tanks. think i may have found my listing problem. The left side tank weighed about 100 pounds while the right tank was bone dry and maybe weighed 20. Guess i should have checked that first. anyways got all the seats out the carpet up and all the materials i need for the new floor. (most of them were free;) i drilled some test holes in the transom and the wood coming out looked like new. :)
if i don't have foam in the boat now should i put some in?

Okay.... now we've got some diagnosis. First of all...... I'm very sorry for all of the work and expense that you are about to experience (glad you've "found" some "free" stuff). My first thought was "Is it worth it?", but you are already into it for $1200, and I don't think you could flip it, knowing what you know now, so you're kind of stuck with doing it. It's not terrible, if you're into that sort of thing.... maybe just this once. :) Consider it a learning experience. And you seem pretty revved-up to do it, so this should be fun to watch. Do your research.

I'm not trying to hijack- just throwing this out as a side note- regarding foam- I should do my research, but I've often wondered if some closed-cell pink or blue foam is really that buoyant- meaning is there any value to using it. I dunno... people mention it alot. I guess it can't hurt.

Good to hear about your transom!

Have fun.

Re: waterline on boat

The styrospan foam is quite buoyant i've found. I've used it in dock applications and it hasn't let me down. As far as going ahead and doing the work... im a carpenter so its right up my ally. I have all the tools i need and the time to do it. so im pretty stoked. the only reason i was asking if i should add foam or not is i wasn't sure if it would act differently in the water by doing so. Just brought home all the pressure treated plywood and started cutting it up today. The actual tear out of the old floor is what im more worried about. Im not really sure what to use so start seperating it. Thanks for everybody's advice by the way

The foam won't change the water displacement characteristics of the hull (other than adding some very negligible weight) so you're good there.

Others have suggested cutting the deck out using a circular saw with the blade set very shallow do you don't cut through the hull.

Re: waterline on boat

i have read in some of the forums that sometimed they put in the expanding foam at the factory because it does offer some support to the hull (reducing hull flex) that might cause the hull to recive stress cracks or failure ...not tryin to scare ya but just letting you know

im jellouse because i had to replace my transom:(
im happy for ya though that would have saved me 3 days and about 70 bucks

WE WANT PICS!!!!!

ILL POST SOME ON MY THREAD AS SOON AS I GET MY CAMERA CORD FROM UPS

GOOD LUCK and dont give up ...im having the time of my life workin on my boat
