Fiberglass and gelcoat or paint? I use a lambswool pad and "mothers" products. They work fine for me. Let the pad do the work, don't press hard and get the surface hot.

Looks like a good kit at a decent price. I try and remember that if it says "marine" on it the cost is higher even if its the same thing. This looks like a deal though and should do fine.

According to the pic on the site, there is 3 Bottles . That comes to about $8.50 each. That wouyld be around the same cost as auto polish per bottle. Try West Marine. They will have the same product.See what there cost is compared to Amazon.

Shurhold makes good products. "Buff Magic" and their polish work well for heavy oxidation.

Gelcoat polish and wax are different from automotive products. Gelcoat behaves differently from auto paint. Some products work on both, but you want to make sure whatever you get is clearly labeled as usable for marine applications.

To answer your original question, Meguiars is a good brand. If your boat is very hazy, you may need to use a compound before the polish to pull up the haze. It may even require wet sanding if it's REALLY bad. The package you posted seems to have good reviews, but I'm a bit suspicious at the "oxidation remover" in stage 1. Cheap vaguely named products tend to cover up defects as opposed to actually correcting them (even good brands have some bad products).

I use Meguiars #45 polish and Collinite 845 wax. The Collinite is an industrial insulator wax that works wonders and is extremely durable.

I used this stuff. Worked great with a polisher and lambs wool wheel.

;););) Slide is right on

You have to remember that what you start with (shine) will be the finished product. Polish or wax , is just a protectant.

Boating magazing just did a full blown test on boat waxes. Take a look on their website. The Meguiars that I use was middle of the roadish.

Re: Wax/polish suggestion for a boat

Polish is an abrasive
it is used to remove scratches not to protect the finish
wax will magnify what is under it
the finer polish you use the more scratches you will Eliminate

West Marine was 51.97

I ordered the Mequires product kit, and some proper foam pads to use. The pads are different grade to, so with the courser pad and the oxidation remover, then a finer pad, and the polish, and then the finest pad and the wax, it should look better than it did.

Doesnt a polish a bit less abrasive than a compound? wax have no abrasives

Re: Wax/polish suggestion for a boat

Not the impression that I got from looking at the review on-line at http://www.boatingmag.com/maintenance/boat cleaning and care/boatinglab-tests-waxes?page=0,0

The Meg's scored 13 which was the highest score of the bunch - unless the web article only mentioned a sub-set of the full article. Would have liked to see a couple of other waxes compared too.

I generally really like ALL the Meg's stuff. They seem like a great company who is on the edge of the industry.

SORRY - I see others had the same observation. I would bet the magazine version was more comprehensive.
