I think the bilge area and the transom are coated in thin layer of fiberglass and painted with bilge paint.
If I chipped the glass away, will gel coat sufficiently seal and protect as the glass does?

So how should I go about it now?
Grind area with sanding wheel and use glass mat and poly resin ok?
Then use gel coat over bilge?
How long do I have to wait to apply gel coat after doing the glass patch?

Whats the cheapest/easiest way to coat the bilge?
gel coat and bilge coat are quite pricey and I can only get it by the gallon.
Ive heard things from garage floor paint,
spray bedliner to Rustoleum enamel spray paint.

So I went to the marina friday and patched up the spots.
I used my grinder cleaned it all up, I used 3 layers of glass cloth, and poly resin.
The folks at Bayliner must have been drunk while building these boats.
They skimp so bad on the glasswork! My job is already better while still wet! lol

I also added glass on the bow seat bases, why didnt these have any glass on them hardly?
Just another budget cut.at the plant?

It started raining while I was there, I had to cut out early. HOWEVER, I have a couple small holes in my cover and rain water was dripping off the windshield onto the seat base while the resin was wet.
Is this gonna ruin that area and not cure now?

Also , I now need to coat the bilge and battery area.
Whats the cheapest/easiest way to do this? I was gonna use bilge coat or gel coat, but ive heard they
can be a pita to use.
Ive heard all from Rustoleum, to spray bedliner.

Lastly, im gonna lay my carpet after the bilge is painted. Again whats the cheapest/easiest adhesive to use?
I bought a can of Lock-tite.Heavy-duty spray adhesive, it worked great on two panels and shelves I did.
But I used one whole can on them. So it would take alot to do the rest.

Probably ought to have asked these in your general resto thread. May not get a lot of replies about bilge paint & carpet glue in a transom thread.

An EXTERIOR carpet glue, probably the kind recommended by the carpet manufacturer

Water will likely cause the poly resin to blush (hazy, similar to what it looks like dried when wax has been added), if the resin was mixed w/ correct ratio of MEKP for your temps and started to kick. Doesn't sound like it had started to cure yet. IMHO wet resin + water isn't good, be prepared to grind & re-work as necessary.

Best & cheapest don't often go together.....

Good, or good enough, and inexpensive perhaps....

Use Rusto & a hardener for low cost bilge paint, but I'd recommend gelcoat or BilgeKote. Save money on easily accessed & easily replaced areas. The bilge area is neither. Low cost & long service life also don't go together, particularly in boats.

In a few years (1, 2, 5... whatever) when it is again beginning to show signs that all is not great below decks, what are you're plans for this boat? Sell it? Completely forthcoming about it's condition & materials/methods used to put it back in service quick or inexpensively?

Boat & boat resto (methods & materials) safely ....

Best & cheapest don't often go together..... I MEANT BEST AND/OR CHEAPEST
I'd recommend gelcoat or BilgeKote. IM GONNA USE BILGE COAT, AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH

YES I WILL BE HONEST AND TELL EXACTLY HOW AND WHAT I'VE DONE ALONG THE WAY
BUT I'VE ALREADY STATED I HAVE NO INTEREST TO SELL.
I WANNA GET SOME USE OUT OF IT BEFORE A FULL REBUILD.(1,2,5... whatever) ..

What's the BEST carpet adhesive I should use.
is Weld-wood contract cement correct?
I have heard a lot of people using that.
