Did this calendar thing ever come together....it's that time of the year you know.
If not I need to pick up my usual Michigan Lighthouses Calendar.

We have done calenders on clubsearay for a couple years now, they start a thread for the calender, members submit photos, then this is compiled into a thread with the photos numbered and then the members vote, the top 12 are then put in a calender. Turned out great.
Great idea.:)

Calendar production typically begins early in the year before it is to cover. Trying to produce one a few weeks before the new year begins, doesn't work very well in terms of sales.

So, if we were to do one, it would before 2011, at best.

Current thinking is that it would raise a lot less money than it would cost to do it, Brandon.

I think if you read between the lines of JB's post back in October, you will find that's it's probably not going to happen. If things change and money is easly to come by again, then, it wil become a definate MAYBE.
Lots of new things happening, like Facebook and Twitter, but a calander is not at the top of the list.

Actually this is very easily economically viable. I worked as a consultant for a company that creates photo-calendars for some of the largest retail and photo processing companies in the world.

If the mods or admins are really interested in this PM me and I can provide some info.

Theirs 67 posts here of people that are interested. That's a far cry from total
members.

Lets show support for this and figure out an easy way for pre-pay commitment and get this done for 2011.:)

All it has to do is break even and would probably increase the iboat store sales
from non members who see the calenders.;)

Re: We need an Iboats calendar.

Why the need for iboats to do it? If you guys want a calendar, make up an unofficial one.

Just because iboats hosts these forums, doesn't mean everything must be official. If you want to make a calender for the people here to enjoy, make one. I'm quite sure there are plenty of retail places which make calendars. Iboats apparently wants a high budget professional one when/if they do it, well I'd be willing to bet at least a few members here are graphics artists who could piece together a member-made one which rivals anything a high budget shop can put out. Then just host it on a calendar sales site. The only thing not allowed for community driven stuff is a trademarked logo (in this case, the iboats logo).

how about multiple pics per month. each month a different "theme" winter months is restoring, spring finished projects, summer skiing, fall fishing.

I like that idea. Maybe start a thread to collect photos where people who want to be in the calendar can post a head shot and a boat shot. Then each month can display the boat pic with an inset of the owner. It'd be nice to put some faces to the people here, as well.

Anyone know of a good website to distribute the calendars? I'm not exactly a photoshop pro, but I could, if no one else volunteers, organize the photos into 12 themed months.

These calendars can be made online, and printed/picked up at a local retailer. The software I worked on mentioned in my previous post is used by Costco in the US and Walmart in Canada. (Walmart US is a different software package)

For those of you in the US, you can go to www.costcophotocenter.com, create and account and build a calendar on the site. You will need to have all the images stored locally so you can upload them to the site.

Re: We need an Iboats calendar.

You can also produce calendars (and a lot more) on sites like Cafe Press. The beauty of this sort of system, is that you don't incur a bunch of upfront prininting costs to produce "X" amount of calendars for eventual sale. The basic system, is that you do the initial artwork with them, they give you an e-commerce site (various levels) and they produce the product as it sells. They handle the production, order taking, shipping and accounting. For this, they take a commission and deliver a statement and monthly payment to you. I believe that you can also link an existing site (such as this one) to their system, so that the end buyer never knows that there is a middleman.

Since production of calendars by commercial entities has always been about marketing/advertising, iboats will have to consider this idea in the context of its overall efforts to increase sales. The advent of electronic media has changed the game significantly, so the days of getting your calendar on the wall of retailers and consumers, is not necessaritly the best "bang for the buck," anymore. That said, it might be worth the effort, if it could be done in an very cost efficient way.

Re: We need an Iboats calendar.

Guys, if you really want a calender, why not do what my kayaking club did? See my post on page 1.
It was 100% free to post pictures, vote, and print the final product.
All we need is someone with the cyber-smarts to set it up. That leaves me out.
