I remember my dad talking about my grandfather being part of a crew in (1905?) cutting huge chunks of ice out of the Mississippi at the Quad Cities during winter. They'd pack the ice in sawdust, to be used to cool the iceboxes in peoples' homes over the summer.

They'd be hard pressed to depend on that now. I've seen the Mississippi frozen over only a couple times in the last decade or so.

It also makes big news when the Great Lakes freeze over -- again, only a couple times in the last decade.

Nice pictures. Keep 'em coming!

Here's a view from my marina. Hard to tell where the land ends and water starts!

Thought you guys and gals would like to see my winter pics. Well just one picture. I was way to busy to be bothered with pictures. This is what us fellow KY lawn dogs do in the winter. That snow pile mounted to be around 12' tall by the time I was finished. The kids at that church were sleddin on that thing for weeks.

This was not a pretty sight after coming back to my dock on the Wabash River. The boat is still in the water (or ice) during a freak cold spell and freaker yet freezing of the river. The good news is that I was able to save the boat as it thawed.
