Weathered Werner fiberglass ladder delaminating

Not sure if thats what it is called but my 8 footer lost its smooth gelcoatlike finish and I can't use the ladder without wearing gloves.Fiberglass splinters in my hands.without making a project out of it would spray painting it be good enough coating ?? anyone try this? Charlie

I've never worked on a ladder, but it would still need prepped. Sanded, cleaned, sprayed. I don't know if the splintering/shedding would be a bad sign structurally.
