Not sure if thats what it is called but my 8 footer lost its smooth gelcoatlike finish and I can't use the ladder without wearing gloves.Fiberglass splinters in my hands.without making a project out of it would spray painting it be good enough coating ?? anyone try this? Charlie

I've never worked on a ladder, but it would still need prepped. Sanded, cleaned, sprayed. I don't know if the splintering/shedding would be a bad sign structurally.

Gee, Sand it a bit to smooth it and brush it with polyester resin. That is what it is made of.

Oh yeah, don't leave it out in the weather for another 20 years.

you left it outside didnt you? if so, in addition to the fiberglass going bad, the plastic cap is most likely UV embrittled. buy a new ladder.

Yes it is heavy and also sturdy, it a Werner.I gave it a quick surface sanding and spray painted the fiberglass,.....heavily coating it. All good now, sealed it up good.I needed an 8 footer and yes it was left outside in my neighbors yard.I gave him $25 for it. I used regular cheap enamel on the thinner legs and Krylon for plastics on the heavier front legs. I have to give kudos to the Krylon!!! I have had this can in my garage for a good 10 years and it sprayed as if it were new. Rustoleum can't even do that after a few weeks after use. I have thrown out more rustoleum that I have used and YES I turn the can upside down and spray after each use.
