Weird drain tube install problem

I had to drill my drain for my splashwell at a downward angle. I intended to use a brass drain tube to seal and finish the hole. The flange of the drain tube will not sit flush on the outside of the hole because of the angle at which it is drilled. Any ideas on how to put some sort of drain tube in this hole? Simply glassing the hole is not an option because it is already in finish paint and I do not want to buy more. I considered buying an extra length drain tube, cutting it off, and hand forming the flanges. But my metal working skills are about as good as my typing,,,. I also considered using epoxy to glue in a PVC tube, but i wonder how that is going to look. Any suggestions?

thanks, drewp

Re: Weird drain tube install problem

The splashwell drain on my sea-ray was hand formed. The way I did it was I took an aluminum tube and epoxied it into the drilled hole. The tube was about 1/4" longer than needed so that I could form a 1/8" flange on each side. I made sure to have a slight radius on the edges of the hole and to clean the epoxy off of this radius while still wet. Once the epoxy was dry, I simply took a ball peen hammer and tapped the protruding 1/8" of tube down. When I did that I had some more epoxy that I spread where the flange would be formed.

Mine is not at an angle like you mention yours is, but the same principle would work for you. The reason I did it this way is because I had a piece of aluminum tube, and didn't want to wait for shipping of a store bought one. It worked great.

Heyas Drewpsters..

Well how much of an angle is it ?

Could you get your brass to bend with torch/vise/and sleave bender to make that angle ?

Could You cut your brass Drain to fit flush and then use the sleave pushed from the inside to match up with an angle cut .. spot weld the sleave ? Or 5200 the gap on the taper inside ?

I know that you cant weld in place if thats what im gonna hear :) out of place after cut and weld.

YD.
