Dang! If a lil ole snake freaks you out, better not come visit me in "da bayou!" W have lots of snakes (water moccasins) around here .... not to mention alligators!

BTW, have I ever told you about my pet gator, Phideaux?

I was pulling a guy once on a ski and he hit a moccasin, sent it up in the air behind him! We'd be on a ski and duck under low hanging trees along the bank, and worried you'd come face to face with one hanging. Makes life interesting, this in the mind of teenage boys.

Moccasins are known to climb up a dangling bow line or oar. Fun to watch the crew reposition in a 14' boat when that happens! Or the bright guy who shoots the snake with his snake pistol and sinks his boat! (why some folks carry sawed-off single shotguns in boats, in the coastal swamps.)

FWIW, I have pulled a.....

I've had the rangers or search and rescue pull up to me several times while out fishing in the wee hours of the morning, wanted me to keep my eyes open for someone missing. I dread the day I actually find one.



When I was a kid up in WI I was 5-10' out in the water fishing off an old downed tree, this was at the out-flow of a culvert from another lake, a creek between 2 lakes. The trick was to cast up into the outflow of the culvert and let your bait/lure swirl around, and as I was looking up into the culvert,,,, a big ol' moccassin comes floating through it and starts swimmin towards the log I was on. Worse than that, I didn't know how to swim and was back peddling down the log, avoiding stickup branches, so I didn't get bit.

Weirdest thing I've seen was an old couple (70-80) buck azz naked as I trolled quietly by their seculded cove. Yeah, I'm still scarred from that one :facepalm:

Had a weird morning once, back about a dozen years...

At the time I lived on an island and commuted to and from my folks' place on the mainland, where I parked my car. From there I'd continue my commute to work.

Anyway, one very foggy morning, taking the slow route across the River, following shorelines where possible, I had to make a break across a channel to get to the next waypoint. About halfway across a tree branch materialized out of the fog, about 15-feet ahead of me. Except it wasn't a branch - it was a set of antlers! They were attached to the head of a swimming deer! I maneuvered around him and continued on my way.

I got to the mainland and made the switch from boat to car. As I got to the bottom of a small hill (still somewhat foggy) I was startled by several ducks in the road, near a farmer's pond.

It was then that the irony of my morning hit me, having nearly hit a deer in my boat, and a duck in my car - in the same morning!

I saw a dead kid floating down the river once. I was tooling along and something caught the corner of my eye so I looped around. I have to admit it was kind of a disturbing to see something like that at 1am in the morning, no one else around, pitch black. I guess he was probably playing around and slipped off a cliff further up river, couldn't climb back out and well,,, you get the picture.

I thought about calling the park rangers, but that would have been a huge hassle, 1am, nobody around, trying to explain my story... I certainly wasn't going to touch it (something might fall off or it might spring to life and bite me) so I just left it there and let nature take it's course. Disturbing as it was, I didn't let this ruin my fishing trip.This might seem heartless, but what could have I done, really? I figure that something in the river would eventually take care of it, maybe even a cougar or coyote?







Oh yeah, this was a little desert big horn sheep (kid)

actually that boat was on its first outting...the driver was swerving through boats while on a pass on lake mead...probably around 90mph and finally lost control, and spun the boat out...everyone was ejected before the boat continued up the side of wait not that rock...i would more or less call that a mountain!

How long you been going to Mead? Remember the one about 15 years ago (+-), big 30' cigarette, dual bravo drives... Similar thing, guy was test driving it and decided to whip the wheel hard and ejected everyone. Boat continued across the lake at WOT and launched itself up onto the rocky shore, 40-50' up the hill.

I saw it coming back from the Temple basin, well not the accident, the boat sitting up on the rocks. Lots of goodies just going to waste, girl friend (now wife) wouldn't let me do any scavenging

It may be. They usually go out into Devil's Cove (the party cove) when there's a significant amount of boats out there. I believe they're out of Jonestown. With Spring Break and all, if the weather is good, I'll bet they'll be out. It's kinda pricey but really cool if you ask me. I'm easily entertained! lol What brings yall down this way? If you've never been to Lake Travis you'll love it! Do you have any pics of your boat posted on the site? I LOVE the Nordics!!

well im only 26 so i have been going to mead for 22 years give or take...i never did see that one in paticular, but i do know the guy that crashed his fountain, and killed his wife and 2 passengers, and another guy that crashed his eliminator with stuck throttles like 3 years ago, he didnt make it unfortunately... both accidents occured in the evening hours

I haven't really seen anything way out. But the coolest thing is either sunset in August or the sight of a loon chick riding on mama's back. No it's definitely the loon. Showing that to my kids was great.
