For the first time since I've been alive, Starcraft does not appear to be manufacturing the Islander in any size.

I think they started with the line in '68 or something, NB will correct me when he checks this thread:)

Which should make all of those Islander owners out there happy to have gotten one while they were available.

Of course we can always find one with a white OMC leg hanging out the transom for pennies on the dollar:D

Yah, the fella that I bought a bunch of my gear from told me last spring that the Islander will no longer be built. He has been going over to the factory buying up all sorts of stuff, I don't think there is much left over there.

That said, I don't believe they are making any cabin style boats now, right? I'm not thinking they are coming out with anything new, hey?

Real bummer big time!:(

Although, I think the value of my hull just went up by $20,000 now that it is so rare;):D

I love the cabin cruiser SC boats. I'm seriously thinking about getting mine running and selling/trading for one with an outboard. I think a lot and change my mind daily though. It's like window shopping. An Islander 19' would look pretty sweet in my driveway.

A moment of silence for the Islander.

Perhaps in the future the Islander will come back in the Starweld line.
Now that would be sweet.

What? You're going to dis-own me as a Bro? C'mon Don, you know the Offshore is rare enough for ya, just put a top on her.

Though I like the Islander too...

HA, as Clay said, I have a 67 Islander and it does have a merc hanging out the back. Or did anyway, right now it is tore apart but have not got very far with it at the moment. Need to get going on it but it is hard as it does not fit in the garage and it has been raining here non stop for a while. But it will be cool to do when I can get to it though.

I think I can speak for just about all the guys around here...

They weren't losing any business from us. At $45,000 (give or take) it's safe to say that we were never in the game.

Brand new rig vs. an old rotted out piece of scrap for $1000 = not even a choice.

I think the choice is really grab that piece of scrap or nothing at all, eh guys?

30 years from now that sweet 2009 22' Islander with the bracket will be laying in somebody's back woods ready for for a fella to snatch it up for next to nothing, and rebuild her! Super cool!:)

Kind of relates to the thread I started on Why do you do it?

In better financial times, I have owned 2 new boats. Both glass, and better for skiing or runabouting. The first was a 20' with a Volvo I/O, pain in the butt, but paid under $7k in 1988, sold for $6500 in 1992. In 96, bot a 17' with a Merc I/O, ended up a great boat as I paid $7200 new, sold 4 years later for $6800. By the way, one week after picking her up, on a 10 day vacation in Ontario, it blew a rod. Fixed in Ontario 4 days later and salvaged some usage that trip. Boat, with young Family at the time hit 52mph.

Took a 9 year break of boat ownership, woke up and said, "they charge $40,000 for an aluminum boat? My old glass runabout now costs $18,000....???? That is what sent me to the used scrapyard and land of misfits!!

That said, the best boat I had was my 2000 Star 19' that I bought for $3000, dolled it up, fixed the leaks, used it, and in bad financial times, sold it.....at a profit, and now, I have my 1979 old goat SS18.

NO BANK, NO PAYMENT BOOKLET, etc.

As far as Islander, that design, in my opinion, is outdated when using aluminum. On Lake Erie, you either have a tinny like today's open bow designs, or you have a glass monster.

The walkaround is a nice design and serves a good function(GW-Trophy, etc.) so maybe Starcraft is looking into that design as an eventual replacement????

Then again, the hot item these days are glass boats for big water fishing like the Reata and 620 series from Ranger, Skeeter has one, other mfg's also are entering that market.

Re: Well it seems to be official...

Sorry to hear that, however at todays prices I see why they do not sell. I recently picked up an 83 Islander, after having owned many boats in my 60 yrs the Islander is the most enjoyable and practical boat I have ever owned.
Mine is used primarily for fishing, but the wife now enjoys going for an evening cruise as she feels safe and secure in this boat. And the fact that the cuddy can store extra clothing and keep it dry and of course the porta potty allows us to cruise for longer periods of time. This is a boat I have wanted for many years and finally one came along at the right time and price.
Perfect size, perfect fit, still trailerable, fuel efficient, just can't beat it. All of you Islander owners out there know exactly what I mean.

Re: Well it seems to be official...

Airshot, I agree with ya 100%. Glad that you got yourself one of these beauties:D

Post up some photos in the Starcraft forum so we can check out the boat.

I got some info from a Starcraft dealer here in Michigan that the Islander is in fact discontinued. The biggest hull they manufacture now is the 2100 FM.

It's basically a 22' SS with a smaller bow area and raised casting deck. Very nice boats.

I think that the credit has dried up to the point where folks can't finance a house or a boat with less than stellar credit.

Not to mention that much of the middle class' discretionary income has been tied up in higher food and energy costs(which are not calculated in "official" inflation figures).

They will resume production when things pick up:)

(if not I will start a company and copy the hull design thru reverse engineering:D)

Ed do you mean I should start a boat company? Thanks for the support buddy!

No VP of Sea Trial Operations available...but you can be the "Executive Vice President of Quality Control" which means you can take a boat out and test it whenever you need too, or delegate that pleasure to others.:p

I'm thinking about putting out a 22' and 26' model to kick things off, are you going to be available to do some paint prep work prior to testing these things out:D:D
