You know Andy....... the pan fish would love a bee on a hook :D

Did you try singing to the bees softly? How about tuning in a radio station from Malone? I hear that would put them to sleep!!....... then you tie them to a hook with a small piece of thread and go fishing!

I can't believe you got rid of all that fresh free bait.

We live out so we get all the insects, mice, chipmunks and everything else at one time or another. A good hand propane fogger has paid for itself and the easiest to use. The garage is not attached to the house so I'll let the tractor run with the all the doors closed, the carbon dioxide and fumes drives most of the critters out.
Wasp and bees will not build a nest if they smell smoke so the old smoking rag on a pole under the eaves and rafters of the garage keeps the problem down also.
This spring the chipmunks had found the boat over the winter and had a good time in the cabin. Now we park the boat farther away from the fence so they can't jump on the cover then run the tunnel made by the cover over the handrail.
Hey, the next time the wife pines over that house in the woods, remind her that SHE WILL BE the sundown and breakfast special.

Part of the checklist for the boat, wasp spray and baseball cap.

Wow, how long before they started coming out?

I get mud daubers all the time under the cover, and under the outboard cowling. Not dangerous, but very messy to clean up.

My wife is in pest control, and she mentioned that apparently if you clear out an infestation, but leave some or all of the left over hive intact, they WON'T come back. Could be because whatever is used to clear them out "taints" the hive material and they won't go near it. I believe she said this trick works for wasps, hornets, and bees.

Re: what a day -- bees

I had a similar issue in my garage where I keep 3 boats. It was carpenter ants in my case nesting in the rafters. Nothing touched them until I used those fogger cans at home depot. A 6 pack is around $8. Found 100's of them on the floor after I let a few cans off. Funny Thing was a few weeks ago I saw some brown droppings on the garage floor again. So I set off another can on top of a ladder and the next day I found a 1000 carpenter bees dead on the floor. So my suggestion to boaters that are worried about criitters nesting in unseen crevices in your boat is to throw a cover over it and set off a fogger can. You will kill anything that moves.
And yes, reading oops last post . . . He's drunk or on the crack pipe heheheh!

Oh mann! not those ants I hate them things, especially when there's ten thousand of "them" (movie about the giant ants) ..
Those kind of wasp there in your steering wheel are aggresive like hornets! I hate em.

The best time to kill bees in their nest is at night, as they do not fly at night. Plus it is a bit cooler and makes them a bit slower.

I'm so use to bees on my job, I carry a can of knock down spray. Open panels up on rooftop HVAC units and you always find a flying family of living pain givers.... :D

reelfinin yes that is a red wasp also known as a paper wasp the usually are not very agressive unlisss provoked

i will second the brake klean ye sit works well i use to use either (the good starting fluid) but you cant hardly get that any more. but thr brake klean will drop them in their place. but as mentioned i would not use it in a confined place as the fumes and vapors could nock you down. i have 3 kids in the house between 4 and 11. we had a very beautiful spring day so we had the house windows open and had about 6 of the red wasp get in. found all of them by windows. not having any wasp spray at the house and needing to watch what i was doing/using i took a bottle of windex and sprayed each one of them with it to nock them to the floorand then used a news paper on them. violent i know sorry but i dont take chances around my kids

........................

The red wasps I have here are aggressive, at least once they get going. They do seem to tolerate me being in the area for a while but once I make some noise or move a door or boat around, their swarming and on the attack.

I did bought a case of wasp and hornet spray today, did a walk around the shop early this morning to try to control some of the nests. I sprayed 36 nests in all on the building, and soaked down one boat that was really covered in nests.
When I got home, I planned to do some work on my 17' aluminum boat while it was nice outside, and found it loaded with yellow jackets, much like those in Andy's steering wheel pic. I had those type of bees in all around under the rear lip of the transom metal, and 3 huge nests up in the bow. I had red wasp nests all along under the gunwales.

It was late afternoon and I left the few cans of wasp spray at the shop, the next best idea I could find was my shop vac. I took the shop vac and a couple of extensions, plus I duct taped on a 90 degree tube I had made up for cleaning gutters.
I vacuumed up all the nests, did it fast and very few were left flying. Those that did also got sucked up. The vacuum cleaner sounded like an joy buzzer once I shut it off. I put some tape over the hose ports and sat the thing in the chest freezer overnight. I'm sure they'll all be dead come morning. Meanwhile, I went back to work on the boat.
