What anticorosive spray do you use?

My motor and engine room on my boat is kept neat clean and dry. With anything in the marine environment corotion is never far away. I was wondering if anyone uses an anticorrosion spray in there engine room? Does it leave a film? Does it attract dirt and dust? Does it build up over time? Is it ok on hoses? Thanks.

I don't have an engine room, but I like white lithium grease. Of course it leaves a film; that's its job.

If you want something invisible, consider teflon or silicone, but remember, the better it looks, the less effective it is.

Do NOT use WD40

I've used the Yamaha Spray Corrosion Protectant and also the Spray White Lithium Grease, they're both a lot alike, with the grease being a lot cheaper. I'd recommend the Spray White Lithium Grease, spray it on, maybe work it into cracks with an old toothbrush, wipe off the excess, it'll work like a charm, sets up semi-hard, does leave a protective film. No real need to put it on hoses, rubber parts, stainless steel or painted surfaces, just plain metal, exposed items that tend to rust, like nuts and bolts. I use it on my entire tilt and trim unit, motor, pump, rams, etc., stays on great...no corrosion at all! I don't know what might work better, especially for the price! Good Luck!:)

Some cosmoline type of coating would do the trick. I know that Amsoil and CRC both make this type of coating, calling it "corrosion inhibitor", I believe. I have used both and they work well. In fact, in the 80's the machine ship I worked for had a piece s 1" x 36" x 36" steel that had machined surfaces on it. Something was out of spec with the part, so the customer didn't want it, and the shop didn't want to trash it, so they threw it in the back yard, after painting it with the CRC spray and it sat out there for years with no rust getting started.
Your concern, when looking for this type or product, is that it doesn't get hard and crack, allowing corrosive elements to whatever you're protecting. While it should dry, and not attract dust, it should remain flexible.
I used to run the CRC product on my chrome wheels on my truck in the winter. All winter long, with snow and whatever they put on the roads, every spring I took carb cleaner to them and the rims looked brand new. I still have them in my garage attic, 20 years later, and they still look brand new.

Ayuh,.... I've recently stumbled across this stuff called Fluid Film,...
It's natural lanolin, aka; Wool oil...

Google it,... I'm pretty impressed with the stuff...

wd40 is a water drying agent that removes the moisture but leave the metal essentially exposed. It seems to attract salt corrosion after the initial cleaning. I'm not being very scientific; I just know the effects, and also know this is contrary to the way most of us, including me, were taught (the complete toolbox= WD40 plus duct tape).
Because I live, fish/hunt and boat in a high salt environment, I have almost quit using it. It will kill a fishing rod/reel. it's still good, however, for an initial treatment, but not a final.

+1 on the LPS 3. I use it everywhere I want sealed from corrosion.

I'm pretty much down to using WD-40 to repel moisture or degrease/destick something. Just doesn't offer the protection or lubrication you need in even basic jobs.

Second on the Fluid Film. I've used it for the last couple years in my lawn care biz. The stuff is amazing and you can use it for several different things. Not sure if they are still doing it but you used to be able to go to their web site and request a free sample....

Another reason not to use WD40 is it'll dissolve the glue on any taped connections. I like the CRC stuff personally.

Lets see.

Fogging a engine is basically a decent finely sprayed oil.

Oil it is. I use + 60 w oil on all unprotected surfaces.

+3 on the Fluid Film. You can spray that stuff on anything and not worry about adverse affects. It's a great anti-corrosive. Other favorite is Corrosion X. You can spray it inside marine electronics. First time I saw that stuff a marine dealer had several electronic items that had been sprayed with it running in a salt water aquarium. I later found out that the US AF uses it to protect their aircraft.

Corrosion-X or Boeshield. The LPS-3 is a good substitute.
