Re: What boating mistakes have you made?
First gaffe of the year!! Pulled the boat out of storage to de-winterize last Thursday.
Hooked all hoses up and put all the engine plugs in. Check!
DVM the batteries, 12.7v each. Check!
All oils clean and full. Check!
Put the muffs and water hose on outdrive, turned on water, no leaks or drips. Check!
2 throttle pumps, turn key, 2nd revolution and we have ignition and idling great! No leaks and let her warm up a bit. Awesome!!
Shut her down and gave her a good bath. Time was getting short (had to go to work) so I buttoned her up. Check the weather for Friday while at work, 80* and sunshine all day, decided I'll play hooky!! Friday morning hooked up the boat and headed to the river, a sheet of glass! Boat ran great, all gauges in the normal reading and enjoyed a 4 hour shake down cruise!
Saturday comes and decided to go out for a couple of hours, this is where I noticed I might have a problem. putting the plug in I see the muffs still on the outdrive but not covering the water passages. O'boy!!! Put the boat in, started it up and idled to warm up. So far so good, took a few 3/4 throttle runs and temps are steady around 140/150*. Idled down no wake zone speed and after about 15 minutes my temps climbed to 170/175*. New impeller last year and never went above 160*.
