What can possibly be the reason???

In the city in which I live there is a new trend; some of the fine citizens (the ones with the 24" rims on their Caprice Classics) have now begun to put high-power speakers on the OUTSIDE of their "whips" (that is a car) so they can share their musical tastes with EVERYONE in the neighborhoods they are driving through. I live in a quiet little area near the water just off of a street that is one of only two roads on and off of a small island; that is it WAS quiet until this recent trend blasting incoherent babble and noise that can literally be heard for 3 or 4 blocks. We have always liked to sit outside in the evenings, but it has really become pervasive recently and it pi$$es me off!!! It makes me want to sit behind the fence and hurl concrete blocks through their window!!!

Why do people feel the need to do this? When I was a teenager, I was into cars myself; I built my first car myself, a '67 Mustang that would literally jump a soda can. I could smoke the tires as far as I would like, which admittedly I did on occasion; however it would be so far out in the country, cows were the only creatures disturbed. This is such a ridiculous trend, and it is sooo deliberately disrespectful; these are kids that didn't get nearly enough strap leather to the @$$!!! Yes, I do believe that a swat on the backside is in order occasionally. Go ahead and persecute me for that one if you need to, but I can say I learned to respect others!

Re: What can possibly be the reason???

For as long as I can remember young people have felt a need to do two things:

1. Call attention to themselves. "Hey, y'all. Watch me!"

2. Defy their elders by establishing a new standard of "cool". "I am free to make my own decisions now. Here's proof."

What is considered "cool" changes with each generation, and each generation gets its turn to be offended by their children. Only God knows what the children of those jerks will come up with. :(

We have noise laws around here. Loud music above so many db's is ticketed.

No reason but it is a good reason to give us bad ideas....... ever wonder what a concrete block or a brick will do..... they would never hear it coming even if it was launched from a canon!

If it wasn't Milwaulkee's Best Light they were shootin-outta that device, I'd be tearing-up right now.. But that is about all that stuff is good fer.
EXCELENT Cinematogrphy!! That guy should get an award.

As for the noise, I can only (legally) make jestures and lip-sync vulgarity they'll never be able to hear.

Re: What can possibly be the reason???

had a neighbour a few doors away that had kids just like us and they had friends that came over with the music just blaring out. You could feel the windows shake with the bass coming through. Many of my neighbours including myself asked them to tone it down while they were parked in their driveway. we all received a mouthfull of abuse from them on several occasions and it was disturbing our evening beer drinking. Finally my 6 foot 5 inch size large neighbour had been through enough as he was trying to get a little sleep before his midnight shift and his windows were shaking also. He came out of his house, straight over to the vehicle. Took out the detachable face of the system and snapped it into 2 pieces right in front of their eyes then put the pieces on the drivers seat, left and went back to bed. We have not seen (or heard) their presence since.

Round here, if you get caught with loud music, you go to court, and then, get this, you have to sit through an hour of classical music. You ain't allowed to sleep, lay your head down, read, nothing. Of course, that is IF they catch you. We live on the corner of the most used intersection of the residental side of town. Man I miss our acreage out in the middle of nowhere that mom just couldn't live with. Hmmph.

Although, I am sure we do tick a lot of the loud music people off, when at a long red light, they have to listen to our chainsaw, or air compressor, impact wrench on a stuck bolt, or our chipper, all of which are louder than their sound system, and are all in use very often.

Re: What can possibly be the reason???

Eventually they will be paying for their loud music. I played music for a living back in the 70's and early 80's. I should have payed attention to those warning labels on my PA system that said:

WARNING: This enclosure can cause permanent hearing loss

They too will be like me,,,,,,HUH What was that? Can you say that again? Yeah, bad hearing is very frustrating. Then the constant ringing that sounds like crickets that lives with me 24/7. Wait and see, there will be loads of lawsuits in the near future on the manufactures for lack of warnings or some other reason.

I live on the old Lincoln Highway where many loud idiots go by. Sure wish there was a way to produce static in their system as they go by. Would a Jacobs ladder producing a spark cause interference with their audio?

What JB said.

SS, you might wanna consider getting a buzz to detract from the constant ringing, but don't drive or you may be forced to stay in the same cell with a certain golden retriever. ;)

We have noise ordinances here as well, the problem is, it is so pervasive around here that there just aren't enough cops to bust even a fraction of them.

I also played music for a living in the 90s; I was in a loud rock band. The difference there is we did it in places where people paid to hear it, we didn't go around blasting out people who were looking for some peace and quiet in their own domicile!
