I've been looking for a used transmission for my 93 Escort and I planned to change it with help. I've mainly been looking on craigslist and seen some that were ok but were to far to haul the car. I was looking and I found this one about one and a half hours away from me. Reasonable drive for someone not liking city driving. The car i could get for less then the transmission shop said they could do it for. I was looking through the pictures and watched the video of the car starting up because he said it had troubles starting. http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m213/the_wolf2/?action=view&current=MOV02111.flv
That is the video of the car starting. I've talked to some people and they said it could be the injector problem they were having a while back with the gas problems and I was told this was a costly fix. I am mechanicaly inclined and may be able to do something with the car if I can diagnose the problem. What could cause this, and what other things should I look for before buying the car?

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Fuel pump, fuel filter, injector(s)?

once it starts does it run smooth ? how many miles ? will it idle ok? the way it was cranking over sounds like a timing belt may be out a couple teeth . those are one of the cheapest and easiest cars to fix . another thing i would look at is the fuel filter often forgotten on those cars since they are hid on the firewall

Re: What could this be??

The car has 130k miles on it. I don't know how it idles after started up or if it dies after starting. I'm at school and they block yahoo email so i can't mail the guy untill i get home. From the video it sounded good right before it ended it sounds like it didn't have a good muffler and neither does mine, and are injectors an expensive fix? I know fuel pump is kinda costly but not bad, and fuel filter isn't bad.

To me it sounded like the timing is out. Probably needs a timing belt and hope the valves have not hit the tops of the pistons.

sounds like timing is the issue and you don't have to worry about valves hitting on those should be an easy fairly cheap fix
