There are a lot of the same familiar names on the site and a lot of us have gotten together in person and made some good friends. My question is:

What do you do for a living or what did you do prior to retirement?

I was a Fireman/Paramedic for almost 25 years, working my way up from firefighter to Paramedic to Assistant Chief until my retirement. I was a EMT and Paramedic instructor at the local college and had the benefit of meeting my wife while working on the local ambulance.

I started an upholstery shop on the side about 19 years ago and do that (almost) full time now...

Any others care to chime in?

Started out as a Marine Engineer for a few years (freighters), then came ashore as a Design Engineer for wireline logging, then pressure pumping (both petroleum service companues). Total of 30 years in the petroleum service business with the past 21+ years as an Engineerng Manager.

I've have a long string of really excellent bosses, and some fantastic co-workers. (And like a lot men, I somehow managed to marry above myself. That's the best part. :))

26 years US Army, retired 2006 O-6, spend most of my time now making pepper sprays as well as training law enforcement officers on the proper use of OC sprays. I also spend time teaching tactical strategy for both Civilian law enforcement as well as sometimes consulting on Military urban combat strategy. I also help the wife out with her internet business when it comes to software and hardware issues.

Before I destroyed my lower back I was a fleet mechanic for a bus company. Before that I was a manager for an auto parts retailer, garbage man, hung siding on houses, and worked in a truckstop for a while.

Started out as a Manufacturing Engineer, transitioned into Information Technology management.

I wish that I could build boats for a living. . . Maybe some day.

I'm in the Textile Management recruiting business 32 years now and still enjoying it, 68 years old but no major parts have fallen off yet, so can't seem to find a good reason to retire. Fireman, we're heading down your way in April, put in at Welaka, cruise the river to Sanford and back, camp on the boat, a couple of nights at Hontoons Resort...gotta love that St Johns River!;)

I have been in construction all my life in one phase or another. I used to be a Superintendent for a Commercial Drywall Company, then a Superintendent for a General Contractor and now I am Senior Estimator for a different Commercial Drywall Company.

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

Ive been in the construction field for almost 30 years. I have pretty much done it all from masonry to finish work. I was a licensed contractor with 6 employees til I just got burned out and had to shut it down. I still pickup small projects here and there to fill in. I bought a tap cleaning business a few years back and really enjoy it. I get to work by myself at my own speed, occasionally get to work as a taste tester on the other side of the bar. lol Gotta keep up the quality control dont ya know.
