Re: What Did/Do You Do?

Thanks Molson, I'm hoping to go this summer. I was supposed to go last summer but the guy that I was going to go with lost his plane in the June tornado we had here last year.

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

I just applied to Medical School at 30-something (GULP) after years in banking. Crossing my fingers, and waiting for an invite to interview any day (I hope). I play on iboats to keep from going crazy :)

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

Well, growing up in Frostbite Falls MN it was a natural that I took over the publishing responsibilities from my uncle and ran our local newspaper, the Frostbite Falls Picayune Intelligence from 1973 until my retirement in 1995. We looked for a way warmer climate and as my wife is from the Black Forest we naturally settled in southern Ontario on the shores of Lake Simcoe. Although, we do miss our summers with our boat on Lake Salle de Bain back in Frostbite Falls.

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

I'm a Paramedic on a Critical Care Transport Team for a hospital in Southwest Georgia. We transport critically ill and injured patients from "outlying" hospitals to ours, for a higher level of care. We also transport to other hospitals for higher level and specialized care. We transport and care for neonates through geriatric patients. We have 5 large ambulances which are mobile intensive care units, two of which are dedicated neonatal intensive care transport trucks.

Amazing: that is what my son does in Reston Virginia. You guys are lifesavers!

Speaking of lifesavers: Raised in Seattle but I started out at the U of Mich to be a Naval Architect, but a war came along so I enlisted in the Coast Guard rather than get drafted. After fours years in electronics got out, worked in a shipyard in engineering but the 70's recession got me laid off three times in a year. Re-enlisted. Did some more electronics and went to OCS got a commission. Served 20 years. Mostly in Boating Safety, accident investigations, CG Auxiliary Director and mostly in the standards division with boat manufacturers. Great Job. I liked it so much, after I retired I went back to work for the USCG doing the same job as a civilian. Did that for 14 more years. When they transferred the USCG to Homeland Security I bailed and retired again. Now I live in my motorhome, travel, manage a web site for boat builders, and a couple of boating blogs. Occasionally I do some volunteer work for ABYC. I do some photography, have built two small wooden boats, and am restoring a 1972 Sea Ray 190. I do a little fishing and sailing as well. Life is good.

Why? You mean I'm not qualified? I have lot's of mutual funds in my retirement accounts. :D

Production Assembly
Lead Operator
Yard Jockey
Inventory Control Specialist

Not in exact order, but all at the same place for the last 25 yrs.

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

Wow, what a crowd and more importnantly the characters.
I spent ten years in the army, from special Forces to ending up as a mechanic.
Spent two years driving a wrecker to pick big rigs off the highway
Owned my own window cleaning company.
I've been workign with plastic ever since, from Thermoforming to Blowmolding
woodworking as a hobby
I'm also a pitmaster with some minor catering, wife gives me that look every time another smoker or bbq follows me home and just shakes her head- son's a chef inspired by the old man

Tomatoe, mustard and vinegar (Make a great Caroline mustard vinegar sauce), but prefer to serve the smoked delicacies plain with the sauce on the side.

Re: What Did/Do You Do?

didn't know you wanted the life story.

started going to college as a mechanical engineer, quickly realized that wasn't for me.
moved out to the west coast in the mid 90's and worked at various computer jobs, network admin, support, consultant.
started flying while I lived out there
a few years later we both quit our jobs and went back to college, I got the rest of my flying done
graduated just after 9/11, killed the job market pretty good
took a job with jeppesen because I needed a job, stayed there for a few years (not a great place to work)
took a job with an air ambulance company, stayed there quite awhile (paid well)
took a job with the faa as a controller, will stay there until I retire or they drag me out of there. End of the road I suppose.
