i have a vintage 14foot closed deck cutter (brand) boat...i bought it mostly because of my history with "cutter boats canada ltd) i worked for cutter boat for 4 years, i cannot find a HIN but told the boat is like pre-hin aged. but its a US "brunswick" built cutter (ithink) and all i can find is the US Coast Guard "conformity/capacity" plate....does anyone know what these numbers mean? is there a year of manufacture on this??? any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like "Grew" are still in business (at least the website comes up) so it would seem your best best would be to contact them and they should be able to help.

Just for grins, check up under the helm if it has one. Brunswick was pretty famous for hiding model and year numbers and later HIN (post 1976).

actually it closed now due to owner/presedent David Cameron, going a slight off and shooting an employee (and friend of mine) then after a hight speed chase with police and a brief shoot out, he ran off into the woods and turned the gun on himself...i do miss the crazy bast***** RIP Dave! the very reason i bought a vintage cutter was because of him. have not been home to check for the hidden hin yet but thnx for the replies

what is on the registration card you received with the boat? I would guess either the 19104 or 1070. there is faded screen printing that should say serial number, etc. the picture isnt clear enough, how does it look in sunlight?

Re: what do these numbers mean?

each plate from various manufactures would be different. they are required to have information on the plate, however the location of the information was not standard.

if you didnt receive any paperwork with the boat, good luck.

Re: what do these numbers mean?

the lack of info is related to the boat and its brand. a quick google search has a few other people in the same boat so to speak. http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/566/dsc0239ri.jpg

so if we look at the two tags. the 50 on your tag appears to be hp rating.
Calipso is the model of the boat
the 1070 appears to be maximum capacity
as far as the other numbers, not sure - maybe your local registration authority can help

Re: what do these numbers mean?

thanx...you really think that much weight in my wee boat? would that be a combination of motor, fuel, battery, and persons? i had guessed that 50 was refering to HP frm my years installing conformity plates on boats @ cutter where i worked. and is there a chance that the number beginning with "DOT" be concidered a HIN? serial # for the boat? sorry about the rant. and thanx again for the info...i was wondering about the "calipso"
