Lucky Jim<br />As long as you do not belive all the numbers then can be a good low end unit for you. Lowrance and Eagle make high quality units. Just be aware the up to 60 degree transducer is a 20 degree transducer. The 600 foot depth is really about 100 feet in salt water if you want to see fish. The 800 watts peak to peak is 100 watts RMS. Still for bass fishing in shallow water unit would be fine.<br /><br />As a example my Lowrance unit specs is for 3000 watts peak to peak and 1000 foot depth and a 20 degree transducer..<br />However in salt water will not see bottom fish at over 200 feet. Yes you will see the bottom but no fish. With a 8 degree transducer can see fish to out to almost 350 feet.<br />I do not like the way they over rate everything. For me I want the true specs. <br />As a example they say up to 60 degrees transducer, Well that is a plane 20 degree transducer.<br />The industry standard is to rate transducers at the half power point or -3DB and there transducer is just that 20 degrees at the half power point of -3db. Look in the accessories and you will see no 60 degree transducer but instead all 20 degree. Now if you rate that transducer at the 1/10 power point it will be close to 60 degrees. Problem is to see fish at the 1/10 power point you would have to turn the sensitivity up so far to see that the screen would black out due to the return in the true cone angle of the transducer. I just do not like companies that are not giving you the real number.<br /><br />Anyway having said that still one of the best brands. But if you want to see Bottom fish or rock fish out in 300 feet of salt water you need at least 3000 watts of peak to peak power (375 RMS) and a 8 degree transducer. 50khz units work better in deep salt water than the 200Khz units.
