hello there and thanks again for help Im buying a used outdrive is a alpha one generation II, outside looks great, the ujoint looks great too, not signs of rust, the gear oil was clean, anything else I should check, by the way Im buying I used transom assembly from same guy looks clean what I need to inspect thanks again for any help.

check oil plug, if has magnet look for metal residue. Could bring a pressure tester and do a quick pressure check.

Pull the top cover (3/8 12 point socket, 4 bolts, takes about 2 minutes) and look at the condition of the upper gears and bearing. If it's been sitting there with moisture in it they'll be all rusty.

even it the above... you're pretty much rolling the dice. that being said, the lack of signs of neglect on the outside... is a good sign that it has probably been taken care of.

I just bought a used drive sight unseen from someone in Michigan and it worked great this weekend on the river!

I really hope you are not paying very much money at all. Because a Brand New (with a 3 year warranty) drive from SEI is $1395.

Just a week or so ago I bought a new SEI upper instead of even looking at buying a used drive. for the cost of the SEI units, I would only buy a used alpha drive if the price was right and it looked to be in pretty good shape.

The one I mentioned that I bought used from the guy in Michigan was an alpha one ss drive - not available as an aftermarket...
