If you are changing the gear oil, you MUST fill it in accordance with the applicable OMC service manual.
Just use any good marine type gear oil. Many of us like Mercury HP gear lubricant
He would probably be better off to NOT use an OMC manual on his Volvo![]()

To the original poster, you never want to mix types of oil, period.
Yes...the Volvo manual calls for V-P GL5 Synthetic Gear oil. That is the stuff i have on order. $16 per quart! OUCH!
Mobil 1 makes a GL-5 rated synthetic gear oil you can buy at any AZ or ADV, or Wally World for less than that. Comes in a silver quart jug. Use it in car rear ends alot.
Bond-O...what are you using it IN?
Is it a Volvo?
When I do a fluid swap, I will definitely find something cheaper. I used Mystik oils in my Seadoo Jet boat. It cost $14 per gallon compared to BRP's $90 per gallon!!! Just as good, if not better. And MADE IN HOUSTON!
What is the third additive? Acetone? Lacquer Thinner? Male wolf urine?
