Jeff just to help a little with what oops is talking about above ^^^^^
I've got a tri-hull (18' and pretty heavy) and it's a gem on the inland lakes. When the water gets rough, you can get a rough ride out of them - but not necessarily that much rougher. Mines a little deeper in the center sponson, so it takes chop rather well but admittedly not like a V hull. I would be very confident to take mine most places a V of similar size and structure would go - but I know in the rougher water the V would have a smoother ride.
