Re: what is the true name of my Alpha outdrive
now i'm confused the serial number on the motor is the same as the drive 6325071 why would fun times say different
Sorry for the confusion.
Normally when a boat is sold and registered with Mercruiser marine the selling dealer (if doing their job thoroughly) will register the engine, Transom assembly & stern drive serial numbers.
In some cases having one of those serial numbers a mercruiser dealer could look up one of the numbers to find any other serial number/s that the selling dealer would have registered with Mercruiser marine.
So using the drive serial number you posted shows your engine should have been a MERCRUISER 470 when sold new, And the engine serial number would have actually been 06283569 when sold new. You would never have had one serial number to cover all three components of a complete I/O engine package.
If the engine block is still original than you might/should be able to find a metal tag on the engine block &/or another sticker on top of the engine somewhere with the
engine serial number on it.
So to me it appears that someone was trying to do their job correctly

because at some point in time it seems someone put the stern drive serial number sticker on your engine when they were installing the new stern drive that would have come in a separate box from the engine. That would be why the number you posted is accually your stern drive serial number not your engine serial number. Hope this helps.
