Semi-V or variable-V (same thing). But that is odd how there is a strong chine at the bow, and none at the stern!

thats what i thought, i also thought the strong chine at the bow, none at the stern was odd as well thats why i was wondering about what it was clasifyed as. i assume its to help it get on a plane faster

semi v, sharp bow to cut the waves, and get on plane. the flat stern for more stable slow speed running, and anchoring, (doesn't rock as much). very classic design.

Obviously the sharp entry bow is to do just that.....slice through the waves. The hard, almost reverse chine forward is there to deflect water downward so as to eliminate spray in the cockpit. The aft area with the chine cut away is to allow this trapped water out.

This is a Glasspar hull..........right?

Go to the Glastron www (not Glasspar, Glastron) and look at their later model hulls. Read their script. Also pay attention to one of the founders of the company who left Glastron after 25 years (thereabouts) and founded his own boat co. Go to that site and look at the side view pictures of his boats under power. You can see what I'm talking about if you're interested.

A very soft riding, stable hull design which minimizes the occupants opportunity for getting wet.

I noticed that when I first saw the picture, it appears to be made similar to a tri-hull in the front, I'd say it has some advantages, 1) being more stable then other boats it's size at rest in the water, because it has a small built in sponson on each side of the main vee. 2) The bow acts like a scoop for this same reason, helping give the boat get lift to get on plane easier, & quicker, while (helping it to remain stable in calm water) but it will also have some mild drawbacks like a tri-hull also, depending on wave conditions, the mini-sponsons can get lifted up on either side by a strong wave, or wake, pushing, or pulling the boat one way, or the other, when under way, a bit more forceful when on plane, and it may pound a bit harder then an average vee bottom also because of this, but never as bad as some tri-hulls.

After checking at classicglastrons.com, it appears you have a copy of a classic Aqualift vee hull (the front part of the hull anyway) this is a good thing actually, it makes for a stable, fast planing, sharp turn carving design, this is great especially on a smaller boat like yours, it appears it far outweighs any drawbacks with this design. Consider yourself lucky to have this, personally I'd like these features myself on any boat. In fact I saw a 16' Larson with this design, just before I bought my present boat and was curious, & interested in it myself. The only thing that really matters here, is if the boat is big enough for you? If so I'd say you're Good to Go! Good Luck, & enjoy! Mike

it sounds like i picked a good boat then, i will use it primarily for fishing but i dident want a tri hull due to how they ride in rough watter however the stability at rest is nice i havent had this boat on the watter yet, probably wont till spring but it seems like a nice compromise in hull design

I had an old 71 Sears Composite 14 footer, with a vary similar hull. A super stable, smooth ride. It will make a great fishing boat! Good find

Nandy, if that is your Cobia in your Avatar, that is a tri hull and if the center section was a lot deeper than the sponsons it is a combination deep V/tri hull which is referred to as a Cathedral Hull.

Big difference in your boat and ezriders.

Nandy, I didn't mean to be a smartass. From where the pic of the boat in question was taken, it doesn't look too far from some of the tri-hulls of the era, which, as some have stated, and you obviously know, were very stable and resisted side to side rocking....I really liked mine for that.

Also you never know the background of persons on here to whom you speak.....like some can tell you the diameter of the crank journals on a '59 whatchamacallit engine, and others will ask for an explanation of what WOT means.

I still think this is a Glasspar which I always wanted for the reasons you are looking at in the two pictures. We have big waves here on Texas lakes and all but 2 of my boats just beat you to death.

IMO, this was the latest, Best tri-hull design, copied but not exactly by many others, I had 3 of these, 1-16' outboard with a 135hp Johnson & 2- 18' I/O's 1 with a 165hp Mercruiser straight 6, and 1 with a 188hp Mercruiser 302 Ford V8

Hey MikDee, did the babe come each of your 3 boats? You can obviously tell from the design, some serious thought went into it. Bro in law had one and liked it. Had it on a 89,000 acre lake which could produce some serious waves.

it is a glasspar hull 1959 trident the hull does look very simular to the wellcraft trihull posted im very eager to get it out on Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon in north dakota in the spring and see how well it does im hoping to be very pleased
