What model year did Johnson start building motors with the SLOW mode overheating protection?

My '98 150HP 60* V6 has it. It goes back before 1996, likely to 1990, on the 60* V motors. What motor are you asking about?

Thanks guys, I have a 1978 85hp, and I wanted to confirm that it doesn't have any overheat protection. There are two wires, one on each cylinder bank, that terminate in a hole in the head casting. The wires appears to be epoxied in those holes, I thought maybe it was some type of temperature sensor. I figured it was unlikely to be a SLOW-type system since even cars were still using analog systems at this time.

I believe the SLOW and Quickstart came out first in 1988 on the big 90-degree looper V6 engines. In 1989 it moved down to the Crossflows with the 35 amp alternator.
