Just want to see what other people find indespensible to their peace of mind, in addition to all the items required by the Coast Guard, state law, etc.

Just another way to pick people's brains for ideas. . .

Among other things, I have an extra fuel hose & bulb, and extra tank fitting so I can pop it in the fuel hose & use it as a siphon, 100' of 5/8 rope, plenty of zip ties, half-a-dozen bottles of water & a box of Jack Link's jerky strips, bug repellent, and extra sunglasses & baseball caps.

What's in your boat bags?

First aid kit?, what a great idea, don't have one but I think all boats should have one. Its along way from the hospital out there on the water? I am gonna look into getting one.

Stupid me - I shoulda asked what kind of boat you keep the stuff on...what I keep in my 18' ain't the same as what you keep in your 28' ain't the same as your bass boat. . .

BTW Mark42 -

I almost bought a clean early 70's MFG in Pt. Pleasant (it's still there as of 2 weeks ago) - boat & trailer, no motor, $500 obo. Practically under the Lovelandtown Bridge.

What kept me from it was the hardtop roof - I could just imagine the headache :eek: I'd get during a busy day on Barnegat Bay!

Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

OK - a few more things I keep in my boat:

-First Aid Kit;
-Signalling kit. It's one in the soft baf, so i have the individual components re-packed into ziplock bags;
-Canned air horn AND whistle;
-Tube of white lithium grease;
-Six pack of TC-W3, as backup to the gallon jug that I regularly use;
-FOUL WEATHER GEAR!
-2 paddles
-Because I don't want to use the paddles (did it once on a friend's 22 ft - NOT FUN!), I keep a 3HP kicker stored in a duffel bag;
- 5gal of 50:1;
-Electical crimper & terminals, bulbs, fuses, wire tape, liquid electical tape, test light, spare cigarette lighter plug, etc;
- Q-Beam;
- Roll of trash bags (also good as extra raingear);
- Roll of those blue disposable shop rags;
- Golf towels are great, as you can clip them anywhere;
- Duct tape & WD-40 (if it moves & shouldn't, use duct tape...if it doesn't move & it should, use WD-40)
- multitool pliers, wrenches, prop nut wrench & spare nut&cotter.

I'm looking at other peoples list & DEFINITELY adding some things to my list.

Keep 'em coming!

yep, gotta agree with the essentials:

WD-40, Duct Tape, Cable Ties, Refuse Sacks, First Aid Kit.

I always hide some money on the boat: not a lot, but enough to allow me to get home/get fuel whatever in case I'm stuck somewhere and the wallet is empty, which it is usually is :(

Great post by the way ;)

Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

KillroyJC,

That old hardtop is probably worth more than the rest of the package. Those are rare! What condition was it in?

Oh, and I also keep an unopened bottle of spring water in the boat. For some reason, being on salt water always makes me thirsty. I once forgot to bring something to drink on a long trip. I'll never make that mistake again!
