Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

4m RIB- I take:-
Horn
flares
Paddles
Sea anchor+foldup grapnel & 150' of rope
1st aid kit
2 spark plugs
wire+fuses
insulating tape
spare impeller
a few sockets and a big adjustable spanner.
1 gallon emergency fuel
Enough cash for 5 gallons.
Enough 2-stroke oil for 10 gallons
Suncream!

Everything is an independant system on board-each tank has its own line and bulb and all the electronics have double positive and negative feeds so if something DOES get trashed then it won't necessarily stop it working.

Just trying to figure out how I can get a kicker onto her now-there's not a lot of room on the transom. I want to seal the powerhead/cowl area with a polythene bag and tape so it can't swamp-I scared myself a bit on Sunday when I stuffed the bow into a 6' wave at 20 knots 5 miles out and took on about 20 gallons.

Nobody mentioned a beer can cozy yet. I wouldn't do to have my beverage get too warm out on the water.

Nos

Have I misunderstood what you're saying?

It sounds like you want to wrap a poly bag around the cowl and make it watertight?

Where you going to get the air for the carbs from

maybe it's me, or perhaps you're just kidding :D

Nah, I'm serious. Maybe I should have said I meant to do it on a kicker though...A kicker on the SR4 would be nice just in case the main one ends up so wet it won't restart. It'd be no hardship to tear off a thin polythene bag before starting the kicker-and that way it wouldn't get soaked and refuse to run. Can't get water in the fuel either if it's got it's own internal tank

PFD's are worn before you even get aboard mine so didn't include them as they are an item of normal clothing-and the fire extinguisher is permanently mounted.

Oh yeah - can cozies...
and a church key!

And a spare ignition key hidden away where only I know where it is (& how to gain access to it!)

WabbitHunter - I got rid of all the things growing on my boat when I ripped out the decking - don't need any new trees in there! :D

Went to RadioTrash today & picked up some shrink tubing & a cheap VOM to add to the kit.
----------------

Vlad - I thought that was covered under "other than required items"

BTW - Excellent screen name!!!!!!!!!!!

---------------

Mark42- I'll be down there for the weekend, so if you shot me your e-mail address (follow link below) I'll send some pix & info - if it's still there (last I saw it was 2 weeks ago). Boat looked in reasonably decent shape, but I didn't get in it or do a real good survey, just a quick walk around.

http://mysite.verizon.net/kilroyjc/

Those blue Merc cooling system wingnuts, in case one breaks or a loose it.

A bottle of Merc drive oil, & engine oil.

A host of cleaning detailing supplies. Fantastic, microfiber cloths, 303 protectant, Stoners glass cleaner, Mr Clean magic eraser, Meguiar's cleaner marine wax, etc. That way when the kids want to swim or hang out on the beach, I can do some detailing if I feel like fidgeting.

A $40 radio shack laser temp reader so I can double check riser/manifold, tstat, oil filter temps against a wacko gauge.

Portable VHF radio with built-in NOAA weather radio.

Extra batteries for gps, etc.

Digital camera.

Powerbars, granola bars, etc. in case the day goes longer than expected.

Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

Hmm.. Since I go out on a semi-small protected lake, I take the following:

Multi screw driver (you know, big phillips / flat on one end, turn it over little phillips/flat on the other), vise grips, needle nose, reg pliers, elec tape. That's the toolkit.

The extinguisher. A cooler with water/food/whatever. Air horn. Sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, towels. PFDs and the "throw" pfd. 2gal can of spare premix. 16oz of 2cycle oil. Rope in varying styles/lengths.

That's it. Oh, except the cell phone and an extra pack of smokes (you know, incase the open one gets wet).

My TowboatUS Unlimited towing ID card!

And a full tank of gas.

My wife brings stuff "for the boat" everytime we go out. Every now and then I go through it and take it off! How many different bottles of suntan lotion do you need?

Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

I just emptied the boat for the winter, and took out all the stuff in it, including the camper top, cushions, tools, etc.

It filled up the car (a station wagon) completely. Just for the heck of it, I had it all weighed up.

Would you believe it all came to about 250 lbs?

In our small 21' boat, add to that 40 gallons of diesel, 5 gallons of water, a 10 gallon cooler, some food, and a family of four.

No wonder I want a bigger boat and a much bigger engine...

Re: What necessities do you keep on YOUR boat?

aside from the required safty gear I only carry my towboat US card and my VHF. plus a supply of refreshing beverages while I wait. so far my card has never been used but its nice to have. I usually ascribe to the theory that if its well maintained and in good repair I wont need tools:) :) :) .

All I carry other than the nnormal CG stuff and enough tackle to outfit 2 boats is a spare prop and hardware, spare fuel bulb, a gallon of oil,a small socket set, and my Towboat US card.
