Re: What size trolling motor?
I currently have a 43 lb. Motor Guide on my SF-175, but I find that both batteries in parallel with this motor tend to drain faster than the Brute 24V that was on it setup for series. The next time that I put a trolling motor on the boat, I'll be getting the smallest Minn Kota 24V. Hopefully, a 24V Autopilot will pop up with a more affordable price, otherwise, I'm going to stick with the Motor Guide. Sure, I'm having to manually "pulse" the current motor when I slow trolling for crappie, but there are times when I do need the extra thrust to make a quick maneuver, such as a skier or a big boat cruising too close to me, and I'm close the rocks. I'm a believer in having more power for just in case rather than getting by until I need what I don't have.
