What size trolling motor?

I have a 16' Skeeter SF-150, and would like to put a trolling motor on it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what size trolling motor best fits this boat? It came without one. I usually fish with me and 1 or 2 other people. There is a possibility of it being pretty windy on the water, and the lakes I fish are constantly bombarded with wakeboard boats during the day.

I also would like a suggestion for a trolling motor. I have a 1992 Skeeter SS90 (16'). I removed what appeared to be the original trolling motor, it was DOA. Also, does anyone have a link for a diagram on the wiring schematics for Skeeter boats? Looks like some of the wiring for the running lights might have to be replaced.

I don't know about the wiring, but I have a '97 SS90 and I have a 56 lb thrust TM on it. If I were putting a new one on I would probably go to the 71 lb thrust as long as you are wired for 24V. Otherwise you may find a 12/24V 67 lb thrust floating around.

Just bought a Minn Kota Edge 40lb, thanks.

Let us know how well it works for you. I'll be in the market for one later this year.

Works good for me, plenty of power. I haven't even used the highest setting yet. Very simple wiring, very easy operation.

Re: What size trolling motor?

I currently have a 43 lb. Motor Guide on my SF-175, but I find that both batteries in parallel with this motor tend to drain faster than the Brute 24V that was on it setup for series. The next time that I put a trolling motor on the boat, I'll be getting the smallest Minn Kota 24V. Hopefully, a 24V Autopilot will pop up with a more affordable price, otherwise, I'm going to stick with the Motor Guide. Sure, I'm having to manually "pulse" the current motor when I slow trolling for crappie, but there are times when I do need the extra thrust to make a quick maneuver, such as a skier or a big boat cruising too close to me, and I'm close the rocks. I'm a believer in having more power for just in case rather than getting by until I need what I don't have.
