Every sinve the E-tecs came out and maybe before the term Johnyrude pretty much became obsolete. There are no E-tec Johnson's from what I can tell and it looks like there are no small HP Evinrudes. Can anyone elaborate on their marketing plan?

Wish i knew. At one time it appeared that Johnnys would all be 4 strokes, then it looked like only small engines.

With SO MANY Brands i would thing they would have a hard time keeping both going in todays world ?

The cost of keeping two different products that fight for the same market is huge

They might as well drop it. I haven't seen a dealer that only sells one or the other in YEARS. Everyone I see has a Evinrude/Johnson sign. I really think they should have kept going with the Evinrude 2 stroke/Johnson 4 stroke thing, GREAT way to keep the 2 technologies seperate. I also think Johnson sold more Suzuki's then Suzuki did!

The brand name is priceless. I can't believe even bean counters don't recognise that.

If there is no future for carbed 2 strokes they ought to build their own 4 strokes. The Suzis are great engines but OMC built excellent small 4 strokes in the late 90s and could do it again. It might be necessary to make them EFI, which would be expensive on a small twin and add a lot of weight, but there are a lot of folks out here who want a Johnson and nothing else.

Re: What's BRP doing with Johnson?

When it worked with johny/rude and merc 3 brands NOW you about 6 big brands going after the same market

With one brand that has a lock on about half the boats built leaveing the other 5 brands fighting for the other half

Somebodys NOT makeing any money right now ?

Rumor has it that the contract between Suzuki and BRP is not being renewed. .

And I have to agree- its a shame that the relationship between Suzi and BRP has gone away. I too agree that the Suzi line in Johnson's clothing was a great fit for consumers. It was great for BRP dealers as well. A person could walk into a BRP dealership- if they wanted 4 stroke here is your Johnson. If you want 2 stroke, here is your E-Tec. Does FICHT still haunt you? They could stay in the BRP family and buy a 4 stroke Johnson.

It also would lock in dealerships and motivate them to push BRP product exclusively.

It will be sad if the Johnson name goes away just as it was sad to see Plymouth, and Oldsmobile disappear.but it hasn't really been truly a Johnson since the early 50s.Johnson was more individual recently than it has been in
50 years.Even though a Suzuki.I would think BRP could come up with a full line of Evinrudes whether 4 stroke or 2.Just need to come up with a distinctive name and design for the engines.
