I'm seeing ads from companies other than iboats that pop up or are in the banner at the top of the site. Attwood and Chevrolet are the two that come to mind but there are others as well.

So what's up with that?

I don't mind the side banners...except when they change the page size (side to side) but JUST recently a Chevy ad pop up keeps coming at the bottom third of the page!!

I left one 'forum' because EVERY page it came up and started talking about the Chevy advantage!!

I hope I don't have to leave this site!!

A FEW things to consider:

1. This is a 100% FREE site. You gain all kinds of information for-FREE!

2. It costs: $ZERO$, to get here and learn.

3. The "side banners" help pay the bills and keep this site alive.

Hopefully, I don't think further explanation is needed.

Popovers can be annoying, but I'd rather see them than have the page hang because an off site ad fails to load and hangs the page.

Some sites do it, and some sites don't. I think it has to do with a timeout setting.

I haven't noticed the ads but I guess the Ageless Actives thinks or knows there are lots of potential customers here. LOL

Re: What's with the non-iboats advertising on the forum?

i just got hip today...
it may be a useful advertising tools. but i find it annoying. but then again, i find most advertising annoying (at the very least). this ad is the exception. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgFhJN4H0T0 gotta find out where to get me one of them switches...... :D

i've got my firefox popup blocker on. it don't seem to block it.

i'll not leave my favorite forum over this silliness. but i really think the advertisers are going to far. everywhere ya go your subjected to some kind of ad that want's to get into your wallet... bs... + for that particular ad (the chevy one) the advertisers are barking up the wrong tree with me. they don't want me to buy one of their trucks as i don't have the dollars to pay for it.

Re: What's with the non-iboats advertising on the forum?

Pretty amazing.

People get something great, totally for free, then complain because the provider, who is not operating their business for free (by any means) , must push advertisements, in order to survive. I have seen this at other free forums also.

People may becoming, like I have been for a long as there have been browser ads - completely oblivious. I can surf an entire day and not recall one ad, even if i was put on the witness stand. Since advertising runs the web, if people are not focusing on ads (like banner ads), they needed to find a way to make them focus, or at least notice. Little pop-up window ads, covering something of interest, are it for now, until people learn to ignore them also. You almost cannot watch a Internet video, without a commercial beforehand.

If advertisers no longer get results from their ads, their revenue will go away and so will the free content, or even the media type itself, may be in jeopardy.

This has already happening in terrestrial radio, local TV stations and all newspapers.

Re: What's with the non-iboats advertising on the forum?

I saw that come up from the bottom add, until now did not realize where it came from, closed it and kept on going and did not see it after. No big deal to me, it was low on the screen and could still read what I wanted too. I like the free but I do pay a small yearly fee on a couple others and would not mind it here, free is great and a couple adds is no big deal.

Re: What's with the non-iboats advertising on the forum?

OK Ads are a fact of life but in this case it could backfire in that people could decide not to refer others to iBoat for buying merchandise since their is ad revenue. Don't ask me how I know this can happen.

As for the Ads I have never seen them but my computer has very strong security that blocks most everything even stuff I want to see sometimes. Personally I don't mind Banners but can't stand pop-ups.

I also no very well what the cost of running a forum board is since I have had a few over the years.

There is no such thing as FREE though someone always pays at some point.
