Re: What's your boat speed?

Kfa,
Thats a pretty cool setup you have there! How is the stability while on the casting deck? I had a 14' Alumacraft a long time ago and i always wanted to add a deck up front but never got around to it.

Thanks for the kind words. I love it. It's made it out of 2 sections of 3/4" non-PT, exterior grade plywood attached with SS screws to aluminum angle braces and 2 x 4 wooden pillars below deck for support. It's also tied into either side of the hull well above the water line. Overall, it's rock solid. It can easily support several people's weight, if need be, and is at just the right height for stepping onto from the dock (got lucky there). It's perfect for tossing the cast net, or fishing from too. My little nephew also loves to lay up there and look over the bow at the manatees and stuff as we idle down the rivers around here. The weight up front helps balance out the boat too. There's also another smaller deck below the main casting deck with foam below that for emergency flotation. In addition to having the casting deck itself, the whole unit forms a nice little storage locker to hold the anchor, PFDs, motor oil, pool noodles, junk, etc.... I've also made a couple small removable decks for myself and the passenger. They're also made from the same 3/4" plywood. They let me stand up nice and level while using the grab bar. About the only problem I've had with them is that they're painted with Rustoleum Professional Oil Grade High Gloss enamel, which is great stuff, but it can get slicker than snot when it's wet. I've already found some foam/anti slip mats I can put on them I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I think I'm gonna try to be clever (famous last words) and use velcro to attach the pads to the decks so that they can be removed when hosing out the boat at the end of the day. Here are some other shots to give you an idea of how she's laid out. Thanks again.

Re: What's your boat speed?

i'd always wondered how those "restaurant kitchen" floor mats would work in a boat...the ones that look like a black rubber honeycomb. they're heavy enough that i don't think they'd slide around and i bet not horridly expensive, albeit hot in the sun.

Re: What's your boat speed?

Oh yeah, I've heard of lots of folks using them. The real restaurant ones are super tough and kinda heavy, but do come in red, brown and some other colors besides black (I worked in restaurants for years and years and dragged more than my fair share outback at the end of the night) I found some 24" x 24'' click together gray foam tiles from HF that I think I'm gonna use. They're cheap and practically weightless. Think flip-flop sole material. I may even get fancy and try to cut them the same shape as the decks themselves. Right now, I'm now trying to think of where I can find some industrial, preferably white, Velcro with which to attach them to the decks. I'm thinking a craft store, or something? It's not a must, but it would be kind of cool to be able to velcro them down to prevent them from blowing away, then rip 'em out at the end of the day when cleaning out the boat. We'll see. I have about a dozen little projects swirling around in my mind; jackplate/transom riser of some sort, fix the bunks on the trailer, reseal the LU to see if I can get rid of that pesky little leak once and for all, foam mats, etc.....You know how it goes. There's always something, but they're all fairly minor at this point and mostly cosmetic. Thanks to iboats, I've actually had more fun and time on the water in the boat ear this year than ever before, so I can't complain.

18' Holiday 130 Merc I/O - 34 MPH/GPS at 4500 with a 19P =- Definately could handle a 21 even a 23 - which would push you over 40 easily. The boat jumps onto plane with that 19 - I even have a 17 for skiing.

Both props I have are aluminum - would like to get a Stainless Prop someday - maybe a 20p.....

In the meabtime 34 is fine - don't want to go faster unless it is glass anyway!

Paddle wheel sensor for FishEagle Mark340

WOT 32 to 34 mph - depending on water conditions. Its wild fast (for me any way) in that size of a boat! I wouldn't want to have to try and make turn at that speed in it.

Idle speed for trolling varies around 2 mph. A little high side. I would like it to be slower, but I'll live with it.

I going to start working on my other 67' 650 Merc soon. I did manage to find time to finally see if ran or not. Fired right up! Not pumping water though so I had to shut it down. The motor is in better shape than the one I'm running, . I found a guy that put new seals and water pump impeller/gaskets in my running 650 Merc for $85 last winter. I think I'll have him do this one too.

1977 Sea ray srv 21

HOT 350 I/O ( cam , heads, 10/1 comp/ al intake ) transom exhaust.

55 gps mph 5000+/- rpm ( had it 10 years ago dont remember for shure)

21 double cupped ss prop. Trimmed way out!

Hard to dock with this prop, idle has to be up with the cam, so not very slow boat speed at idle.
