Re: when did outboards get complicated ?
Cougar1985 states:
elto!means, evinrude light twin outboards!
No chit Sherlock!!!! Ole was a real stud n' had lots of great ideas. Fact remains that OMC did not incorporate Ole's corncept into their high volume manufacture of outboards 'til well after Mercury, (Ol Karl was a real stud too), did n' you know it.
electric shift was discontinuded long before omc went boobs up.
What does that have ta do with the price of beans in Boston?
The corncept was real weak n' folks who had 'lectric shift were not happy. If yer not happy with the performance of yer outboard ya may buy a different brand when ya step up again, ('specially if the company sticks with a bad corncept fer many years).
Ya ever heard of Karl's "dock busters"? He only did that junk, (they were real purdy n' fast though), fer a couple of years as he had "Lake X" n' kept testin' n' improvin' n' that is why he eventually crushed OMC n' they went BK.
Did ya know why they went Black, (n' never went back
), one of the main dude's wife or mother or some such told Karl that the way a lady hides her weight is to wear Black. Once he did it with the very tall 1000 in 1962, (VERY VERY PURDY ENGINE; BTW), he never went back.
dont really know why as my 1963 works fine!
There are real purdy, real fast Dock Busters out there that run real good too, (almost bought one, [a fresh water virgin with even cornpression], a few weeks back). I resisted it, (n' it wasn't easy, wink....wink). Now that I'm into Black I ain't goin back. I also like the trigger fired CDI since 1967, (they may not be quite a purdy as the 1962s were butt they are still real lookers), MMM...MM...M.
yes, the tall black mercs were beautiful for sure.
Thanks: I'll tell the girls, they like cormpliments!
what will you do if merc finally gives up on 2 strokes for good?
Cry a bit, snif....snif.
The newest Merc I own is me 1996 25 HP, (have two other 25 HP Mercs).
I have lots of inline6 n' some inline4 parts engines. Me purdy Black girls are like small block Chevvys where many parts bolt up from 1962 to 1988.
I also sniveled a bit when GM became "Gubmint Motors" too sniff...snif. I don't like Socialism, butt I'm in a minority in the Soviet state I reside in. I hang out on me own private island, (thats tooo heavy ta transport ta Wyoming
) n' stoke me ol' purdy Black girls n' polish me cannons in case the Libs come fer me Black girls, (which I'm not gonna allow).
i know i dont want a
4 poke if its at all possible.
4 poke!!!!! Now that's funny chit!! I'm gonna steal that one, (if ya don't mind), n' put it in me 'pone dictionary. Imitaion is the purest form of flattery (as I'm sure ya know).
i will support omc as they at least seem to be fighting the move to 4 stroke all the way.
I agree with ya. I'M A JOHNNYRUDE FAN TOO!!!!!! I jus' have a weak spot fer me tall Black screamin' smokin' hot ol' girls. Can ya blame me really?
it will be a sad day for sure when they tell me i cant use my 1939 evinrude racing outboard or any other of my old toys, lets enjoy them while we can no matter what brand they are.
Maybe if that happens you can come ta "RR Island" with yer family, toys n' some viddles n' some fire power n' we can protect 'em from the Libs in Central Corntrol, or at least go down smokin'.
I think we are in agreement.
Respectfully, JR
