Where do dead boats go?

I tried to find a boat scrap/junk yard here in Central Florida but couldn't find any.

I read something about scrap boats always being around marinas.
I'm looking at Google Maps and the marinas around here don't have scrap boats anywhere near them.

Where do the old, dead, scrap boats (and especially motors) end up?

Re: Where do dead boats go?

Thanks that'll help.
Guess I could'a searched the forum for topics on 'SALVAGE' yards.

Boy, with all the water around here you'd think there'd be at least 1 boat junkyard closer than Clearwater.

I'm specifically trying to find old motors.
Any more help would be appreciated.

They don't "go" anywhere. They just sit in the tall grass beside the house until the owner has to move and then puts an ad in Craigslist with terms like "good deal, needs TLC, need it gone soon, etc."

The lucky ones end up in a resto thread.

Re: Where do dead boats go?

My neighbor has a collection of dead boats. I think they were all projects that he lost motivation for. He cut up his 25 foot sail boat and hauled it to the dump. My first boat which was a 1978 glastron was sold to a co-worker who used it as a jungle gym for his kids.

Good dead boats go to heaven, bad dead boats go to hell ...

"Where do dead boats go?"

If you asked my wife, she would tell you my front yard!

That is after she drills holes in the hull, she wanted to make sure they were dead!

Gotta let them sit for a few years so they can collect enough leaves for the pictures.

Hmm, OK I guess that's pretty much a wash then.

Thanks for the responses - probably saved me a goose chase.

MA, what is it you want, to get an old boat or to get rid of one?

Either way your best bet is Craigslist. An ad that says "Free Boat" if you want to give it away or a search for "Free Boat" if you want one.

There is Dons Marine salvage in St Pete/Clear water. there is also Marine Surplus in Sarasota. However most of the hulls get ground up and are used as filler for seacast who is located in Edgewater Florida
