Re: where is this water coming from?!?!?

just got done going over the boat again (it's on the trailer)...

I ran water up the tube in question and it started filling up the ski well in the middle of the boat. However, it didnt start coming in from the front of the well, it started coming up in the corners at the rear of the well.

SO, if it is coming into the bilge from the ski-well, how is it getting into the ski-well to begin with?!?!?

There are several deep scratches on the bottom of the hull, but i pushed as hard as i could and the edges didnt move at all. There is one actual 1/4" hole in the hull at the center of the V where it begins curving back up to the bow, but i stuck a screwdriver in it and it's only about 1/4" deep. i cant see anything above the trailer bunks, so those parts of the hull will have to wait till i get it back in the water.

i've left some water in the ski-well to see if maybe it starts seeping out of the hull somwhere

i checked the transom again, i swear it is solid....but it's not leaking in from there anyway.
that 1/4 inch hole could let a lot of water in.... does it look like something gouged it or a factory hole? i would put the 3m 5200 sealant in it. (i think thats the correct # someone here will correct me if im wrong.) but at the rate you say the water is coming from that hole i would think it should have been coming out pretty rapid when u attatched the water hose to it. sounds like your on the right path..

check the speedo tube mount.

on my boat i had the same problem with water coming in and i could not find it. while sitting still fishing water would fill the bilge but while running it didnt seem to take on water. one day while out fishing i could suddenly hear water running i looked around and found water pouring out from under the stringer in the middle of the boat so i rebuilt the boat (had other problems as well). what i found was the speedo tube mounting point which is a piece of wood behind the glass under the transom had rotted away (no big deal as its encased in fiberglass) with the wood gone the tube could not be mounted properly so i guess the po decieded that longer screws was the ans and he punched a hole into the area between the stringers which i guess filled up over time then when the boat sat bow up (big motor so shes rear heavy when floating) the water would run out of gaps near the rear when on plane the water would run to the middle so it couldnt get out till it finally found a week spot under the stringer. i surgest you take out every screw and use 3m to reseal all the hole. also do the test holes as the transom as this could be the pathway for water to get under the deck. your boat doesnt look original which may be a good or bad thing it will just depend if someone has done a good job or a patch job.

Re: where is this water coming from?!?!?

update...

i had the boat out all weekend and paid very close attention to it's water intake. i never did park it on the beach again, so it didnt flood like it had previously...it also didnt come out of that pipe (which runs from the ski well). However, it does have two other noticable leaks... the largest is a continuous leak coming from the bellhousing area, right in line with the starter. i assume it's most likely a freeze plug. the other leak is at the very bottom of the outdrive mount...its a very light trickle. both leaks combined make the bilge pump kick on about every 2 or 3 hours. opinions/advice are very appreciated

Ayuh,.... Sounds like it was frozen, with water in the motor, And, a rotten transom...

YES! post lots of pictures and video.

Welcome to the dark side/brotherhood of fiberglass boat ownership. However when you are done you will have a serviceable boat that wont leak or be at risk for transom failure.
