Re: Where's Don S?

Don may also be busy...

For those of us who live in areas where the temp is now warming to boating temperatures...

Now is the time when we have paying jobs to do...
Gotta pay the bills so we can afford to help those who need it. I wish I had more time, but my posts are gonna be pretty limited until November.

Good Luck All!

Re: Where's Don S?

Quote:This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONE very TINY dribble of GAS WILL BLOW YOUR BOAT AND KILL EVERYONE ON IT. Don was right, but some people still don't LISTEN. Okay on a car, but an enclosed (gas vapor heavier than air, so you don't SMELL IT) boat..I give up::

Well I feel as though asking for assistance was the right thing to do.

The question is was the lack of advice the right thing for DonS and others like you to do. The way I look at it is this, People who come here do so for advice, because they have decided to do the work themselves. Warning someone about what to look for after rebuilding a carb would have been a BETTER and SAFER response...

Re: Where's Don S?

Do any of you know the story about the Harley Mechanic and Doctor at a party? Biker ask the Doctor why his pay is so much higher than his, for what seems like the same job. Open up the patient/motor, adjust the valves, whatever. Doctor says that he IS right, but can you adjust those valves with the motor still running?
Ps. This thread is way out of hand. Dons a pro. He gave free, great advise, and links, and diagrams. Trog would go in and question his replys, change the subject (called hijacking the post)and go on about everything but THE ORIGINAL QUESTION. Don got sick of it, I have been sick of it for a long time. You want opinions, well, thats mine. So now Dons gone, and now you can listen to trog ramble on .......

Harley jokes seem to always go flat,no offense meant.DonS.seemed to be a pro,his answers were spot on.But we are what we are,and maybe it WAS TOO MUCH FOR him.
I don't think so.I sure won't let a squirt drive me off this forum.

DHP

What did Robby say so wrong? You're pretty quick off the mark to give your opinion, but if someone says 'boo' about you, you get all twitchy.

Fair go. If you're going to give it out, then be prepared to take it when it's handed back!

Chris.

Re: Where's Don S?

One of the nicest features about the scroll button on your mouse is the ability to completely scroll though someones post without having to read it. I hope that newcommers on here are able to figure out when to use that feature (such as when just about everyone is saying the same thing....and one person is saying something else, usually so far off the wall it should be obvious). It has just been in the past week, that I have started to deploy that feature everytime I see someone's rantings. Back to the subject at hand. I hope Don comes back, I don't know of anyone, that on a regular basis took the time and energy that he did on here. How many times did a diagram, or part number or reference item "magically" appear to help end confusion. While a-lot of people put forth considerable time and effort trying to help their fellow boater, Don always went the extra mile. In a forum where there are many soux chefs and cooks, there is no doubt in my mind that Don was the executive chef.

"Fair go. If you're going to give it out, then be prepared to take it when it's handed back!"..

i take it dude.. on a regular basis.. hadnt u moticed..

the last time i stopped taking it the hero went running off in a fit of childish petulance..

in fact i have stopped taking it now.. my trial is over..

basically i annoy two types of people on this board.. the experts who praps aint as expert as they make out to be and have very fragile egos.. and who always rely on their buddies to back em up..

and advice seekers who dont wont to have to think.. they dont ever want the alternative viewpoint right or wrong... they simply want a "do xyz and all your problems will go away" type answer.. they cant handle anything else..

oh for a world where there was only one correct answer.. but unfortunately there isnt such a world and its about time some guys realised it..

as for the latest knockers.. achris and waterone1.. go read the recent "hot battery" thread.. its about exploding batteries.. i kinda implied that it wasnt a wise thing to do.. bung 30 amps into a dodgy battery and go away and leave it.. and the fact it exploded wasnt to be entirely unexpected.. they didnt like it.. he he

make up your own mind about that one..

as for don.. well he was a really knowledgeable guy and yes he spent a lot of time giving advice.. and yes he was an asset to the board.. but if u read back thru the earlier weeks/months threads every so ofter someone complains about dons arrogant attitude.. usually enough dudes come to his defence for it to be glossed over.. but sooner or later it had to cause a real problem..

and yes there are too may people on here who give advice and seem to think it gives em the right to talk down to other members whenever they feel like it.. basically it dosnt.. and sadly its one thing don never could learn.. it wasnt straight talking it was bullying ignorance.. simple as that..

i aint gonna say any more on this.. i am done with it..

trog100

ps.. and robby your post count is way higher than mine.. is that why u post so many off the cuff one line replies.. trying to get it up..??

Re: Where's Don S?

trog100 = devil's advocate?
Even if the given advice is already right, and backed up by other posters, Mr trog100 must stick his oar in and give a 'different' opinion.

Are you a professional stirrer, or is this a new retirement career?

Yes, that 'hot battery' thread did get me going. The man had just had a battery go up in his face, NOT FUNNY! You turn around and not only tell him he deserved it, but laugh at him! That is NOT ACCEPTABLE behaviour for anyone on any board.

Trog says...."as for don.. well he was a really knowledgeable guy and yes he spent a lot of time giving advice.. and yes he was an asset to the board.. but if u read back thru the earlier weeks/months threads every so ofter someone complains about dons arrogant attitude.. usually enough dudes come to his defence for it to be glossed over.. but sooner or later it had to cause a real problem.."

What do you mean "IT"? It was YOU who decided to tell Don off, and YOU are NOT a board MOD. This site is run by IBoats, not, Trogboats. My best bet is there will be NO ONE worth asking a question soon, just people posting for rank

Not really, its just that unlike you, I can get MY point across in a simple sentence, where as you open up the old fartbag and do whole pages, ticking off a variety of people.

Re: Where's Don S?

My last post on this subject. The following is copied from another thread. Read this... " when i undid the bolt at the base of the fuel bowl aswell as a alot of bits being in the fuel bowl i also remember there being a springinside the housing where the bolt enters, after looking at a detailed diagram the spring holds the nozzle in but like yours(i think) when the spring is taken out the nozzle stays stuck in so i am also thinking as to what use the spring is doing, inside the nozzle is a thin pipe which presses against the nozzle and it is this which is preventing the nozzle from sliding out(is this what it is suppose to be doing?)your problem sounds like your float valve is not shutting off(prob bits in valve or adjust float maybe)and too much fuel is entering the float chamber causing excess fuel to flood out,"
I did NOT make this up, and apoligies to the person who posted it. But as you can tell, these fingers should not even be making a sandwich, much less fiddling with a carb. This is where Don would have probably rolled his eyes, and told this guy to back off and slowly put down the screwdriver. Now Trog, he would .....oh never mind.

Re: Where's Don S?

At least some try to help. Other are just to full of themselves. I haven't been hear lond, but I have been here long enough to see that DonS was offended by Trog, because Trog did not bow down to him. Robbie seems to think that only a few opinion matter on iboats and the rest are not qualified to speak. Selfrightousness is what truely drove DonS away. He decided to leave because he did not like anyone else offering an opinion.

Again, some don't understand. I didn't say ANYWHERE that no one can speak. Its the butting in with useless drivel altering the original posters QUESTION! I looked at your profile jamesrl, and you hunt and fish. This is Merc, Volvo, OMC I/O. Do, or have you. EVER seen ME post in the FISHING THREAD? No, because I'm not qualified. Ever see me post in the Sailing thread, just to start an argument? Again, no. I don't own a sailboat. I do post in this, Force, and Johnson forums because I own some of each, and have been a Machinist and Mechanic all my life. If you want arguments and plain old fist-a-cuffs, stick it in "Dockside Chat", where it belongs. People have a lot of fun down there. Ta-Ta.
