Re: Where's Don S?

I also thank DON S for a lot of his help, I just think he comes off as being very strong(my nice word), on forums like this there is no need for that. All most people here are looking for is help, not to be talked down to. Maybe he is fishing and that's where he has been. Or maybe he and rodbolt are taking sensitifity classes???? LOL!

Re: Where's Don S?

The more I think about it, I don't think Don will be back. He is a man who sticks to his guns. He posted "you ain't gonna see me on this site again". My guess is that he meant it.

Re: Where's Don S?

From what I have read Don gets good marks on technical ability but next to zero on style.

That last score is the problem. There is no need to be insulting or talking down to people. Frankly Trog is just doing waht many of us do.. To share our perspectives and approaches to problems people have.

If we can only reply to questions if we have the proper professional credentials then iBoats needs to go out and hire some pro's and then this becomes a charge site..

Everything on this site in my view is opinion. As a person asking a question, I look at these opinions and judge their viability. If there is someone who is clearly heading for danger, we need to inform that individual where they are headed. This doesn't need to be an insult.

People come here for a reason. Some are here just to get help. Some like to contribute and share. Others like the comraderie(sp). Some come to feel big about themselves (bajapower). There are many motivations. If your not getting what you want out of this site, then don't contribute or visit. Whatever Dons motivation, he must not be getting out of this expereince what he wants..

Re: Where's Don S?

its not just that u go.. sometimes its the way u go that decides how much chance there is of u coming back.. and from this thread its obvious that folks or at least enough folks want don back for him to come back.. the invitation is clearly there.. but don didnt leave in the kinda way that makes it easy for him to come back..

i went about six weeks back.. i went cos in one of my "disagreements" with the "gods".. the mods doing their job of trying to keep things friendly started manually altering my posts.. i wont use the real word for this cos the boards auto (word removing thingy) zapps it.. u aint sposed to talk about it.. he he.. this was not bad language by the way..

anyway.. suffice to say i was kinda struck dumb.. he he

so i left the board and said goodbye.. in a friendly kinda "struck dumb" way.. i left cos of the people that run the board not cos of the members..

my mistake was to keep reading it.. and in a moment of weakness i popped in a post.. and i was back.. he he

i cant see don doing that.. the only way to get don back is to get rid of me.. i aint made this personal or at least i have done my level best to try not to..

i dont stay where i aint wanted.. all it takes is for enough to just convince me that i aint wanted and off i will go..

course i could say for the good of all i will go kinda stuff but i aint "holy" enough for that.. saintlyness aint one of my strong points..

we do have this attempt made by a "worshipper" to get rid of me..

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=010737

and one of the "demigods" joined in near the end.. all i know is that if i tried this kinda trick the mods would pounce on me.. others its seems are allowed to get away with such things..

the purpose of robbies thread was to get a whole bunch of folks to agree with him and make a prat of me.. it didnt work.. but it could have..

this board is biased.. no doubt of it.. it is totally dominated by small group.. pretty normal most boards get this way.. i cant join any group without changeing it.. its just me.. if i stay here i will push this board away from the proffessional follow the manual do it right do it once vewpoint.. to a more relaxed open hobby approach..

some will like this some will not.. but if i stay it will happen.. take my word for it..

the bottom line is this.. the dudes that previously dominted this board will lose some of their dominance if i stay..

good or bad.. buggered if i know.. but this is about board politics however silly that sounds..

and the reason i admit to the blame is cos i know its true.. i have disturbed the status quo..

i can stand them they cant stand me..

i will watch and read how all this ends with interest.. he he he

trog100

Nobody goes. End of discussion.

Let's be adult about it. This he said she said garbage is for the school playground. Just were it should be.

DonS is a big boy. If he made up his mine to go then respect his wishes. If he wants to come back, welcome him back.

I would hate to think that we need to step lightly around here when we have a statement or opinion to make because there might be a chance someone is going to leave becaus of it.

If you can't stand the heat..............

I never set out to disrespect anyone nor do I try to put them down. Most remarks here are made in jest.

Keep it light, keep it simple. Stop taking everything so serious and lets have some fun.

trog100, don't even think about not posting anymore. You would set a bad example for the future.

Don S will be back. Like you said..."moment of weakness"

I'm done.

Your computer non-geek can fry his computer and it will not effect me one GD bit. But you put that zero knowledge person twiddling with a carb in his boat in the marina next to my 25 footer, and I come down to find it burned along with others to the waterline...well, see you flawed "logic"....?

Re: Where's Don S?

MY Two Cents Worth:
First this thread should have been moved to Dock Side Chat after the first comment.

It has nothing to do with the above topic...Mercruiser outdrives, engines, etc.
Second the Moderator should have stopped this crap between Don and Trog.

Yes we have lost one of the top 10 marine tech. on this board.
I don't see him coming back. On this thread we have a:
computer repairman
A printer
An Architect
Heavy engine salesman
A boat remanufacturer
An insurance salesman
Designer
An individual that has one boat, writes internet video games involving airplanes, has an opinion on everything, responds with use less dripple, and has some of the most off the wall comments know to man.

Now which one of you guys will replace Don? He has forgot more than any of us will ever know. You don't like his style of posting because he is blunt and to the point? Big deal!!! Go back and read his posts, he has always tryed to keep people from hurting or killing them selves. He has tried to read between the lines, figure the
expertise of the person posting, and advising them to get a manual, tell them how to fix their boat, or get a marine tech.

I have been in the boating business going on 25 years, twelve years in NASCAR racing, and have learned a lot from Don, but Trog100 I can't say I have learned any thing from your comments.

I will.
It can now be the "cc lancer site of boat theory and repair" cause you ain't gonna see me on this site again.
I'm just really sick of all your bull sheet.

...lighten up cowboy.

People take things to serious around here.

I would like to have him back like the next guy but you taking personal shots at other posters isn't gonna help the cause. I guess our personal profile is now a place for other posters to get ammo against ya. Don't worry I fixed it.

Come to a printers forum and lets see you hold your own over there. :p

I disagree...this thread has a lot to do with I/O and Inboard Engine problems...namely the quality of advice given and the expertise of the above mentioned member. Don has posted 2132 posts since joining in September 2004. That's an average of like 10 posts a day from a guy who works in the business! I say thank you Don and I'm sorry you were under appreciated.

Re: Where's Don S?

Interesting stuff. I think people lose site of the fact that this is nothing more than an internet chat room, not a closed-door professionals only technical hotline.

Me, I'm a jack of all trades. Auto appraiser is the current money-making career...former auto mechanic and auto body man, former financial advisor, racer of cars and snowmobiles (weekend warrior only), muscle car restorer by hobby, engine rebuilder when necessary, a fairly accomplished welder and woodworker, pretty darn computer savvy, a bit of an athlete, a loving husband, a Christian, and someone who happens to be able to fix just about anything my hands come across with proper patience and research.

Am I a professional boat mechanic? Not by a long shot. Do I sometimes have something valuable to offer here? I'd like to think maybe sometimes. It's the job of YOU who read each post to filter out the junk, guesses, dummies, professional answers, sarcasm, and 13 year olds posing as boat mechanics.

Fact is, ANYONE can write ALMOST anything they want here. Right or wrong. Many seem to forget that. I see this as a site to bounce things around, a place to confirm or deny your own thoughts, and a place to help get yourself and/or others to the correct answer to a problem. The people in this place do not ALWAYS provide the correct answer. If you dislike a certain person on this site, just skip their comments...it really is that easy. If, for example, I didn't like Trog's comments (not true, I have no prob at all there), I'd just skip anything Trog had to say and move on. How hard is that?

And it's time to admit that most of the regulars on this site have an addiction...myself included. GET OFF THE COMPUTER ONCE IN A WHILE AND GET SOME SUN, EVERYONE!

Happy day! This concludes my useless opinion....

Re: Where's Don S?

Great post, oh Crazed one.

I never could understand why people don't ignore stuff they don't like. My addiciton is pretty intense right now. I think that's because there are very few things I'd rather do than talk boats if I can't be on the water . . .
