After participating in several threads here about BRP and the Johnson brand, I understand why BRP dropped Johnson- but look at the percentage of Johnson outboards in this survey. They are dropping a Johnson label with huge brand recognition... there is a huge percentage of outboards out there with the Johnson name.... Again, I understand why they dropped it...it just seems silly given the high number of Johnsons out there....I was surprised by this survey's results....

Good points. I believe that BRP was holding out the possibility of re-launching the Johnson brand in the not too distant future. Can't speculate what technology they were thinking of. However, the contraction of the economy and particularly the recreational boating industry have just about squelched that scenario so the Sea-Horse is probably gone for good.
Too bad as it is truly an Iconic American brand.

The 25 has been absolutly bullet proof.

I've never had much luck with the OMC engines but the Mercurys have never let me down. I'm going to buy a new boat with the HPDI Yamaha engine and I can only hope it is as reliable as my Mercurys.

I have a Yamaha F150 four stroke and it's my first big outboard motor. All of the other boats I had before this new Ranger were Volvo Penta I/O's except one. It was a 470 Mercruiser I/O and that thing was a total POS.
My F150 had big problems in the beginning and Yamaha replaced the powerhead at fifteen hours in service. Trusting it after it blew has been hard but I've put 107 hours on it over the past eleven months and it hasn't failed me once. There has been issues but that was all along the lines of not trusting it after the initial problem. I think it's a good motor and no doubt will last me many years of good service.

1978 Evinrude 85hp (on the back of my Challenger bass boat and used frequently)
1957 Evinrude 35hp (runs and awaiting a lake test whenever I get another boat ready)
1957 Johnson 35hp (project, I've been robbing parts off of it though )
1964 Wards Sea King 5.5hp (runs and been trying to get rid of it like it is, needs water pump impeller and recoil starter)
1970 9.5hp Johnson (runs, just needs a couple of parts and put back together)
1955 Johson 10hp (Major project)
1968 Mercury 100hp (needs rewiring)
1983 Mercruiser 3.0 liter 4 cylinder with alpha 1 outdrive (motor runs but needs work, was locked up when I bought the boat).

Mercury thruster 2 (now a parts trolling motor) and a mercury thruster electric trolling motor. 2 motor guide IIIs (one of these is now a parts trolling motor now as well), 1 silvertrol antique trolling motor.

Former owner of a 1959 Johnson 5.5hp that I got running (new owner still hasn't used it though go figure he hasn't even ran it). Also a former owner of a different/another 1957 Johnson 35hp that I never messed with (never ran) and sold for a pretty penny, the old man that bought it didn't even look at it close, just handed me the money and after I told him "that I didn't know what was wrong with it" he just handed me the money and said "it can be fixed".

I think that covers it. It'll make you sick to hear how much I paid for some of these motors

Mercury 500 thunderbolt 50 hp 1975
Mercury 115 not sure of the year the boat was a 77, have'nt run the numbers yet.

If it don't have fins like a '57 Chevy, I'm not interested.
