Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

I currently have:
1936 OMC (not Johnson or Evinrude) 4.3 horse
1948 Johnson 5 horse.
1949 Johnson 2.5 horse.
1955 Johnson 3 horse.
1975 Evinrude 40 horse.
1988 Evinrude 4 horse Deluxe.
1988 Evinrude 12/24 v trolling motor.
2001 Minn Kota 40 pound thrust All Terrain trolling motor.

I am hoping to be building my next rig from scratch - 20 foot plate aluminum center console, with 3/16 hull, 12 degree deadrise etc. for striper fishing. Still debating on optimal power. I can't decide if my ideal choice would be a 150 Etec, or 150 Honda. However, seeing as I am 15, and money don't grow on trees, I likely will be getting a mid to late 90s Yamaha or similar 4 stroke to put on it, or if worst comes to worst, an 80s 150 Johnson/Evinrude, along with an equivalent year tiller. As much as I love 2 strokes, the 4 strokes, or new Etecs really fit my purposes of this hull better. Plus, those Hondas, while pricey, are nice.

Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

Just bought a new 09 15 hp 2 stroke Yamaha while on vacation over christmas in Bradenton. I wish I could have bought another outboard from Tohatsu Guru, but I couldn't lift a 4 stroke Tohatsu 15!

Now to sell my 1975 Evinrude 25.

2007 Suzuki 115hp 4 stroke fuel injected
2007 Suzuki 9.9hp 4 stroke (kicker) - manual start - as they were practically giving them away $2000 new - I got it for $500

The main motor has been really reliable and economical so far. Also extremely quiet at idle

Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

I vote in favor of Evinrude,...new or old(preferrably the older OMC motors since I am looking for an older Lund boat with an OMC/Evinrude motor).
Do not have it yet,but I'm a lookin!

Well,...I didn't find a Lund,but I did find a Sea Nymph 14R Big Water boat with
a 1970 9.5 horsepower Johnson motor. That will soon be upgraded to a 25 HP motor since the Sea Nymph 14R 'Big Water' boat I have is rated for 25 HP max.
My vote now is for Johnson, but Evinrudes are still good motors. My buddy has an 85 HP Evinrude on his 1978 ProCraft bass boat. It is one hell of a motor.
OMC all the way for me,guys!

Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

OMC guy myself, HATE BRP though (had many issues with there Snowmobile/ATV lines). I do see them bringing out there own 4 strokes though as the Johnson line. They said that 2 strokes were the future of snowmobiling 3 years ago and they released a performance 4 stroke this year eating there own words. I can see this happening in there outboard lines also. The 4 strokes I believe, have too much momentum for them to gain marketshare with the Etec's only. They NEED a 4 stroke line (AKA Johnson)

1998 Johnson 70hp Stroke (Suzuki in white)
1988 Johnson 28spl 2 Stroke
1978 Evinrude 6hp 2 stroke

And my next one will probibily be a Suzuki DF50 to replace the 28spl on the pontoon boat, 1000$ cheaper than Yamaha, Honda, Evinrude Etec in my area and they come with controls and a fuel tank to boot.

Re: Which Outboard Engine Brand do you own?

Well, I guess I have to add to the list again. My Nissan and Johnson have a sibling. I found a new in the crate 2008 E-tec 90 and my dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse...
