Hello aall im new to boat and just recently bought a 1999 larson 176 Sei. My question, is how do i choose which prop is the best when looking for a new prop, or how do I determine which prop to go with. Im really looking to only ski, and joy ride in my boat, with possibly the occasional fishing. I have the volvo penta 3.0 on the boat. thanks for the help.

Nice to meet you smitty. What information we need is the waterline length of the boat, the horsepower of the motor, the gear ratio of the outdrive, what manufacturer and model of propeller you have now, what diameter and pitch of prop, what is volvo pentas recommended Wide Open Throttle RPM range and what is your Wide Open Throttle speed and RPM with that Prop. With that information we can really help you.

Re: Which prop to choose

You really need to read the sticky titled "READ THIS FIRST" at the very top of this forum. If your boat has a tachometer, you need to make some test runs with an average load and not the rpm and speed (gps preferably) at wide open throttle. Then an only then can we begin to understand what you need. There is no such thing as a standard prop and no two people operate their boats the same way so it is essential that we know how "your" boat performs. Posting the year make and model of your power plant and drive is also essential. Serial numbers are on the engine and model number is on the drive.
