It's the symbol of our country - not just the military. And regardless of the politics of the day, I'm proud to be an American and fly the flag on the boat and at home..

This is international flag etiquette. Country of ships registry on stern, and flag where ship is visiting on bow.

I learned, if I remember correctly, the country you are visiting their courtesy flag stands above all. Your country flag may be displayed under it. The bow is reserved for an insignia flag, such as your club. My American flag is usually on the stern, and big, and sometimes on the mast, small. I really like the photos of the other boats.

Each of my boats, and my son's boats as well, all fly the flag all the time. My house has a flag flying year round, as well as the cottage and cabin.

All of our cars sport yellow ribbons too.

I would be interested to hear from those that do not, and why they don't!

My wife and I were discussing this last night while on our maiden voyage with the new boat. Question - since we have limited room on the stern (the 200 Optimax takes up most of the space), is there a way to safely mount a flag pole in the light socket? I'm not talking jury rigging it, I'm wondering if there is a flag pole made for this. We don't boat at night, and if we did, I believe the flag has to be taken down if not lighted. Just wondering if this could be an option. If not, I have to look into a holder for the other side. Thanks.

If you look at the pic that I posted above, I used a teak flag pole and carved the base of it down to fit my stern light socket. The only problem with it was that it was right where you wanted to grab as you came up the swim ladder. Since then, I bought a flag pole that attaches to one of my grab handles on the stern. Like THIS.

Another option would be a Flag Pole For Light Base or use your own light pole and attach the flag to it with CLIPS.

The USA flag gets flown every time we go out. I wouldnt have it any other way! I'm glad to hear that so many others also share this.

I dont see it enough, This was on the 4th of July and I only spotted a handful, but Old Glory is always flying proudly on my boat and at my home.

Just got my boat recently, flag will be added to it before next trip out.. I think ill have it come off the wakeboard tower

We normally fly our USA flag on a pole that connects in our stern light. But when we went out on the Fourth of July we went out looking like the attached picture.

The pic of my boat was from this past 4th weekend as well. The wife and I were looking for other boats flying Old Glory that weekend and only noticed a few. Now there were a bunch of boats flying there NASCAR colors....seems sad to me that one can be a NASCAR fan and not fly the American flag as well.

Generally, the national ensign should be displayed at the peak of the gaff, i.e., the outer end of the spar extending aft from the mast of your boat?if you boat has a gaff. If it does not, fly it from the flagstaff at your boat's stern. If your boat has an overhanging boom or an outboard motor, your flagstaff may be offset to starboard (preferably) from your boat's centerline.

At anchor or made fast, the ensign should be flown from the stern staff of all boats.

Well of coarse, it is on my stern light and is one of the first things I do when I get to the launch.

Mine has an American flag with a ND flag underneath.

Yes, old glory flies off the stern every time Liberty is on the water. Liberty is a 1976 AMF 995 Crusader built in the 200 year of America's liberty.

I fly mine from the time the boat is launced in April to the time to pull it out in October. I have done this since April 2001. I have it mounted to my "All Around" light which is about a foot higher than my flybridge bimi top. The flag tends to be the highest one at the dock. Can't miss it.
