We won't be boating near home this weekend, the lakes within a couple hours of St Louis will be nuts. I'm taking Friday off so I can get the boat cleaned and packed, as soon as the wife gets home from work we're loading up the kids for the 5hr drive to my father's place at Lake Norfork in northern Arkansas... So far the forecast is sunny and dry sat-mon. :D

What are everyone's boating plans for the weekend?

I am hoping to back my boat up about 50' and float it for the weekend. I live on the water, tidal salt creek that I cannot get in or out of at low tide so I will plan around the tides.

I'm thinking about it. The "Big" lake here ain't all that big & we get a ton of NJ & NY people that own cottages & summer homes at the lake. On weekends like this one there are so many boats, you can almost walk across the lake without getting wet. Sad part is most have no idea what so ever what they are doing, they think they do but, Ohhhhh, No! Maybe I'll sit with a case of beer at the public launch with the cammera's & laugh my ***** off all day.

dragging the camper and boat to Lake Trinidad State Park Th-Monday. We reserved the campsites 6 months ago...

Got 5 families going + 3 boats...should be a good time, although, lake is smallish, it doesn't get to busy as it located 3.5 hours south of Denver.

Happy Memorial Day!

Dragging the boat to Amelia Island, Florida for 3 days of fishing/peace/quiet....I've never been a serious threat to the fish population, but snag one every now and then!;)

We have areas on Greers Ferry Lake that allow us to get away from the crowds so we will be going Saturday and Monday :)

Most likely be on Greers with spdracr on Saturday. Where do you guys put in? I'm leaning toward Choctaw but haven't decided for sure.

Wow, Norfork is a nice lake from what I hear. I haven't been there, but I do a similar thing every 4th of July and head down to Bull Shoals. It's probably a little more crowded than Norfork is, but it's still pretty desolate.

This weekend however I am staying in town and keeping my boat in a marina on the Mississippi for the entire weekend. It will be a little more crowded than usual, but there should be plenty of beach to pull up to with the water being low.

I'm heading out this morning to spend 5 days on a barrier island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, no bridge,so we'll be boating constantly. No crazies except the people with me! (I started a similar thread on General Boating).

Seems like the problem with "crazies" is confined to lake boating? While us salties will see one or two a day, it's seldom a problem. Most common "problem" is the overloaded or too-small boat for conditions. Is that because we're better boaters, or just have more room? I doubt it's a factor of population or urban; I'm in a GMA of well over a million people with water water everywhere, boats right in city, and plenty of rednecks! (There is one "party cove" area way up on the canals where the mullets are on the heads, not in the water, but it's more of a fresh-water environment)

Yeah, Norfork is a clean one, but smaller than bull shoals.. All the years I've been going down to the twin lakes area i've never been on Bull Shoals, and it's only about a 35 minute drive from where my father lives (mountain home). We love that area down there, if only my wife or I could find a decent job in that area we'd move there in a heartbeat.

When I was six we moved to Harrison and we boated and fished on Tablerock. When I was eleven we moved to NE Arkansas and I spent the remainder of my childhood going to Norfork. Now I live within an hour and a half of Greers Ferry and Ouachita. Am I spoilt, or what?;)

Awesome Coop! My dad and his brother have been going down to norfork for about 45 years. Since the age of about 3 I have been there every summer, I haven't missed one yet! Now my dad retired there and has a house just a couple miles from a ramp so I no longer have to sleep in a tent! :)

I'm just half salty - on my mother's side :D Really I think that for the most part, fresh water boating doesn't require the seamanship that driving ocean going vessels require. Lakes are so much easier and convenient from location to launching, fuel and so on. This makes it so much easier for the partyers to get out there and do it. Then they bring ALL their friends so we can watch them do their holiday thing on U tube

Well with the weather they are predicting for us, I may just ride in the river a little, if it is not storming. Winds are going to make the waters ROUGH and all the bad things offshore storms do to the water.

Re: Who will brave the memorial weekend madness?

I'm planning on moving my boat 1 foot over to the right in my driveway. Severe storms in the forecast in my area, every day since about a week ago all the way through the 10 day forecast. I haven't even fully de-winterized the thing because every time I set foot in the boat it starts downpouring/hailing. The cuddy cabin has been locked since I locked it back in October... :-(
