LOL!

They work as brake lights (like someone is going to be able to keep up with you...).

Here are two shots of the engine:

Red one is the new 2009 model. Other one is an older Calloway 'ba**s to the wall' edition!

Neither of those boats are that fast. They are on ski boat hulls and no ability to trim. However, they do have tremendous acceleartion and very little bow rise.

Malibu is making them. No fron lights, but the side panels by the captais chairs look like door panels, and they actually have electric side curtain widows.

People don't use them on cars, what makes you think they would use them on the water.

if you ask me they need them on shopping carts at the super market too....people are just too stupid to know better

but if you try and prove you had the right of way, a crash at the super market isn't nearly as bad as one on the water ....lol

Probably for the same reason that a red light is not placed on the "port" side of your car and a green light is not placed on the "starboard" side of your car.

The lighting system used fits the purpose, and as previously mentiioned, there is a maritime system for signalling passing intentions.

I'm still trying to figure out what your problem was. You want to turn left, he's moving to his port so you pass starboard to starboard - what else could you ask for?? I fail to see how any kind of blinkers would improve the situation. In the pic below, your boat is the red boat, his is the blue boat.

My current boat and my last boat have LED turn signals and brake lights on the transom. They only operate when on the trailer though. You can see them on my current boat, directly above the "f" in "Mischief" and the "M" in "Managed". The darker and larger rectangles outboard of the LED lights are vent openings for the bilge blower.

If you understand the COLREGS then there is no need for them, and they would only confuse things.

Re: Why boats don't have turn signal?

Hello I was wondering why boats don't have a turn signal? I boat the Potomac river and it can get very busy at times and one time I wanted to turn left into a side stream and the incoming boat kept on going to his port side to keep me on his starboard side so I ended up stopping and wait for hem to pass or we would have crashed:eek:

The situation described is on an inland waterway, turn signals would not be much use on an open sea.

They do. It's called your horn.

Two short blows my friend, two short blows.

Indicating ones turn audibly seems crazy to me. Isn't boating primarly a visual task as is the case with driving a (land) vehicle? If two vessels facing each other, then each boat should be visible to the other boater, and so a visual signal, such as a gesture or flashing light would be more intuative. Horn signals might make sense if coming from behind or any other situation where the other boater might not see you.

But agian, the system you are reffering to was presumably designed for use in the nautical envirement, with it's all way water traffic scenarios.

Inland waterways and different in that water traffic is two-way. The red and green lights are actually right of way lights, and on an open sea, the person driving/sailing the vessel approaching from the port sees a red lights and knows they are requride to give way. The boater on the starboard sees a green light and keeps heading straight. But the give way to the starboard rul isn't generally relevant on inland waterways, is it?
