What is the biggest reason you want to get out on your boat?

i think the underlying reason I love to boat is the chance to get away from civilization. Get away from traffic and all of the people and mess of society.

It is relaxing too.

What are your biggest reasons for wanting to take the boat out?

Re: Why do you love boating?

i was raised with boats in my life. one of the best quality family time a family can have. relaxing, at a slow cruise, fun in water sports, and fishing. frustrating when it does not run correctly. just a way of life, a Damn good life.

From the beginning, boats allowed me access to more fish in more isolated places. That's number one.

For a while a boat served well as a chick magnet and allowed me to seperate the fishing chicks from the sun worshipers.

Finally, boating gave me projects; projects to restore and refine a fishing boat and projects to play with outboard machinery.

Re: Why do you love boating?

I was raised in Florida and boats were a way of life. When I first came on this forum my signature was " fishin Florida since fifty-five". I passed on a few good promotions over the years just to stay here. I was without a boat for around five years and literally felt like a fish out of water.
It would be hard to explain everything involved with this lifestyle, but I see no turning back now. Just retired and have really good health, so hope to stay more involved. We just bought our second boat a few weeks ago; unfortunately it wasn't the flats boat I was out shopping for!! :D Do we see number three on the horizon?? ;)

Re: Why do you love boating?

When I was younger, my father had a bright orange ski boat. I couldn't tell you the model or anything about it, I was to young. We have videos of him doing some pretty intense slalom, kneeboarding, and barefooting from the thing. But he had to sell it to support the family many years back.
I always wanted to get another one to try and pay him back.
And, I try to do all of the old sports he did just to show him how much better I am then he ever was (Until he gets in the water. His old self still shows me up sometimes:eek:).

It is just the thrill of being on the water that does it. I have always been an extreme sports person. Skateboarded as an adolescent, Snowboarded and Surfed as a teen, and now I am into wakeboarding. It seems the older I get, the more expensive the toys keep getting.

I admit I got a late start in boating. I was three weeks old before I got my first boat ride:D
I guess a life without boats -- wait a minute is there life without boats?

One word FREEDOM. Boating is one of the only things that let you go wherever you want with almost no restrictions. I love this country dearly but we seem to have freedom slipping away every where you go. The wind in your hair,(what I have left) the ability to fish, ski, is almost like the early pioneers. Not quite the same, but as close as you can come. Open water belongs to no one and is pretty much unrestricted. So in a word freedom!

Like a lot of others I was raised around boats and water but now I think I like boating the best because everybody seems to be real nice always waving, seeing if you need help if it looks like you are broke down and we all seem to be in a great mood when we are out there and it is good family time.

The lake is the only place all 5 of us can agree to go to. At least one of us is not happy going any other place.

Re: Why do you love boating?

I'd agree with mphy98. As a neighbor and I brought back my first boat from the dead after purchasing it from a guy who'd let it sit in a field for several years. I knew befroe it even ran that it represented FREEDOM to me. I don't think I'd ever even been out on one before as I had lived inland my whole life up to the months prior to my first boat purchase. At the time of purchase I lived on a bluff directly over coastal water. I burned countless gallons of fuel that summer going absolutley nowhere and returning to the same spot over and over again but it was an experience of a lifetime. Now, I have a larger boat that requires me to work harder to fuel, transport, and maintain it.
Freedom has its price.

Grew up being an Ohio river rat. Boating has always been in the family.

My boat is usually wet by the middle of April when the docks open and it comes out in mid October. I do admit it sits at the dock about 90% of the time. We love being spoiled with the air condition and shore power on those real hot days :D We do take it out about every other weekend for pump out at the marina and to keep everything working right.

Re: Why do you love boating?

Because I can't remember a time when boats were not a part of my life. Fishing, crabbing, digging clams, water skiing, sailing, swimming - all of these things were a part of my life, literally since before I was old enough to understand what we were doing.

I've also been into camping and hiking at various points in my life. I think the attraction to those things is the same - its about being out in the "natural world." The wilderness, whether it be the ocean, a bayou, a mountain, the woods, etc., is where I relax.

If I ever get too old to actually enjoy boating first-hand, I'll probably be in here, with about 50,000 posts to my credit, talking about boats.

Re: Why do you love boating?

I was raised on the water. My earliest memory is learning how to swim. It was a way of life. To this day I thank my mother for moving from Balto. city to the water when I was 6 months old. To this day I have been no further than 150' from the water. There used to be a stores on the water, of course marinas all over, marine life abounded. Of course boats were a big part of living on the water. We had a 31' wooden sailboat named the Shilelagh that took us all over the Chesapeake. I traveled more in that boat as a young child than in a car. As I grew up, boats provided a means of transportation go see friends. We've had runabouts, sailboats, jon boats, hydroplanes, cruisers, sport cuddys, a skipjack (a spat actually), I recall a double ender that had some serious leak issues, etc. Boats provided a means of putting food on the table. My oldest brother would go around the shores in the morning to scare up some soft crabs for breakfast. Of course, every other marine species was still available at our disposal. If mom wanted catfish, you went down and came back with some 15 minutes later. Boats provided my friends and I many important skills that have been second nature all our lives...such as how to skid your jon boat over a protruding sandbar without killing the motor. So why do I like boating? Simply, I can't imagine not boating. I have a pact with my best friend to make sure I get a viking funeral (although I think I might outlast him). That outta flip DNR out!

The sound of the outboard and the mesmorizing wake behind me.. I like my 16 foot tinny with 9.8hp motor just as much as my 25' pontoon with 90hp

Love it since I was a kid.

Oh.. and bikinis.

Being on the water is the best therapy. I can relax, scratch, have a moderate amount of adult beverages, and truely enjoy life.
