Re: Wife laid off

Sorry to here about the job loss.
I have seen glimmer of improvements in the economy around here. Slowly but surely things are improving. The problem is things are going too slow. Looks to me like our standard of living is going backwards for a long time. Started many years ago. My wife job is month to month in survival. I told her we have to put a years worth of bill paying in the bank just in case. Everybody should have a years worth of cash reserves in the new economy., Used to be 6 months reserves. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
I think people should be prepared to relocate. Some states are doing much better than others. Like Texas and North Carolina etc. The problem is people can't sell their homes so they can move quickly

Re: Wife laid off

Thanks again guys...

Hey DW....That aint a bad idea, kinda seasonal but maybe good $$ in them!

What sucks is they conviently arranged her last day to be this Thursday..
Which is also the day of a charity auction that she "chairs" on behalf of her company.

So she has to work all week to see that HER company looks good at this event, then they are done with her...

Really ticks me off...They also asked her coworkers to NOT TELL ANYONE that Diane is being laid off, but to tell customers she "Has left XXXX Company"
Thats so that they don't "appear" to be having $$$ issues.

I say while at the podium, during closing ceremonies, to say goodbye and the truth to the entire crowd.

Remember, "What goes around....comes around." Karma man... I've not only burnt bridges...I've blow torched them before I got to em....and I have some regrets because of it.
Although I don't think she should "out" them I also don't think Diane should be asked to do this....to me it points to an outfit she might be better off without in the long run.
Put me down for the Werewolf....I still have nightmares from the clown.

Burning bridges is never a good idea. I'm sure there is an exception to this rule. If she doesn't feel that keeping her just for this charity event is appropriate then she should decline to do it. Of course if her actions before her final day were to get her "fired" she might lose her rights to unemployment benefits.

She's going to have to suck that one up Kev. Burning a bridge would be exceptionally bad in the advertising business.

Thats exactly right..If she refused to see this event through, it would have been probable cause for dismissal..and that may have been what they really were after...

Yep..Thats just ME talking..but my personality is to get em all ON the bridge, then blow it up :D

She'll get something better. She should work the crowd and leave some hints that she's available after the event. Do a bangup job and leave with a job offer :)

...Or move to the competitor in that market. Or startup her own web advertising as a competitor. Revenge is a dish best served cold :)

Not happy to hear about this business of being laid off. Hope it does open a door to something better anyhow.:)

Just let Diane decide about the speech...I can picture CBK going rogue and grabbing the microphone possibly.:p

Best of luck, take the special lady for a boat ride too BTW:D

Hey DW..

Shes ok for now..Her last even went well..She is relaxing at the moment, had a scare with her Friday night, urgent care then transferred by ambulance to a ER...thought it was serious, but turned out to be fluid in her lung...much better than the original heart issue I feared..

Think a full day of boating this Friday after Thanksgiving will be a nice get away:D

Re: Wife laid off

You should give her a honey do list while she is out of work. I know on the surface it may seem like an insensitive thing to do but if she sits around the house with nothing to do she will get depressed. We all know if momma aint happy, nobodies happy.

I'm on vacation this week and all of my friends and my wife are still working through weds. My honey do list is keeping me sane despite all the guff I gave my wife about it. I've been replacing old veneer doors with new 6 panel doors upstairs, redid the bathroom (toilet, granite couter/sink and faucet), and there are a few other odds and ends.
