The Adams County coroner has identified the state Game Commission officer who was fatally shot Thursday night in Freedom Township.
David Grove, 31, of Fairfield, was pronounced dead at 11:12 p.m. Thursday, according to coroner Pat Felix. He was shot in the head, she said, and it is unclear whether he was shot multiple times.
Grove was on duty when the shooting took place and may have been making a vehicle stop, Felix said.
According to the Game Commission, Grove was in the 300 block of Schriver Road to investigate reports of ongoing nighttime

An autopsy is being done at Lehigh Valley Hospital and its results should be in this afternoon, she added.
In a news release issued Friday morning, Game Commission executive director Carl G. Roe said the commission is shocked and saddened by Grove's killing.
"He was a bright, young officer who was dedicated to conserving Pennsylvania's wildlife resources, and promoting our state's rich hunting and trapping heritage," Roe said.
According to the Game Commission news release, Grove before being appointed a WCO Cadet, Grove had served as a Deputy WCO in Franklin County, from 2001 until 2007. Grove also worked at the Penn State University Deer Research Facility in University Park, Centre County, from 2003 until 2004
Grove graduated, in 1997, from Grace Academy in Hagerstown, Maryland, and he attended Appalachian Bible College, in Bradley, West Virginia, from 1997 until 1999. In 2004, Grove earned a bachelor's degree in wildlife and fisheries science from Penn State University.
