I'm getting ready too replace the transom and floor on my 1968 Glasspar citation. I'm thinking of using 2- 3/4" acx plywood. going too cut them out dry fit them then use PL constrution glue too glue them together. when glued going too use same glue too glue new transom to transom fiberglass. after that cures going too fiberglass everything inside. will this work for the transom? Also when I do the floor I'm going too use 3/8" acx plywood, cut too fit then sand, then paint both sides too seal, glue too the stringers, then fiberglass the ends too the boat.after thats all done I'm going to glue in carpet. Am I on the right track on doing everything right? By the way the transom will have a 72 65hp evenrude on it.
Thanks for any input

Re: will my idea be ok?

I've (recently) used pl construction adhesive for this kind of thing, however, it will NOT stop water nor stick as well to smooth epoxy. I would 1. impregnate the boards you're using with epoxy (or at least polyester) resin before assembly and 2. rough up the contact / bond areas with something like 40 grit before final assembly. I would also not use pl adhesive for a sealant, in my experience it is not nearly as good at preventing water flow as 5300... You should also note that when you're fairing / filletting, if you get pl very thick, especially in much humidity, the reaction of the water (par of curing) happens fast enough that the carbon dioxide formed in the process is formed fast enough that it bubbles and leaves voids and an uneven surface. Pl is great and very convenient for bedding and bonding things, but is nt a perfect replacement for everything. Noe that I put glass over everything I bonded with pl and that ps / polyester resin did not stick to it nearly as well as epoxy (duh, I know...)

Not an expert, but hope this is helpful.-

Re: will my idea be ok?

i have been doing my transoms as you stated for years. then seal the complete transom. as for the deck i would use 1/2 inch instead of 3/8. 3/8 can have too much flex between supports. and i have used the PL just as you suggest. the pl concrete formula, is better for fairing, etc, as it does not get the bubbles. ask far as strength goes both are equal.

Re: will my idea be ok?

I was thinking of just using napa resin with a mat too join the transom wood.
I'm not sure if this would be a good joint or not. The only type of resin I can find in this area is the bondo or napa resin. I can only get it in quarts or a gallon. here is a link to the napa resin http://www.napaonline.com/NOLPPSE/(..._7651286_0202736366&An=0+59999+2999999+109999. will I have too sand before each layer with this resin? also here is a link to the fiberglass matt. http://www.napaonline.com/NOLPPSE/(...1289_0202686035&An=25055+59999+2999999+109999. will this mat work?

On the floor the only place I was going too use the pl was on the top of the stringers. as for the ends and sides I was going to glass them.
what is the coverage of 1 gallon of resin ?
Thanks for all the help so far
